Currently, there are many foreign students in Korea and the quantity is increasing recently. The most of them are Chinese students. It is expected that the number of Chinese students will continue to increase in the future since Korea and China are geographically close and also have the common cultural points in many aspects.
This study aims to analyze the relationship among leisure satisfaction, self-esteem and Korean university adjustments of Chinese students who are studying in Korean universities. In order to achieve these objectives, the participants were 450 Chinese students sampled from a metropolis, a metropolitan city and a city. And 395 questionnaires data were treated, except 55 ones which were deemed unfaithful or missing some answers in the questionnaires.
In order to analyze to the data collected, SPSS WIN 20.0 was used, and frequency analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive analysis, mean comparison analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis and hierarchial multiple regression analysis were conducted.
The major results of the study were as follows.
1) The differences in leisure satisfaction, self-esteem and Korean university adjustments according to the characteristics of Chinese studentsco
First, there were significant differences in relaxational satisfaction of Chinese students according to study course and length of stay.
Second, self-esteem of Chinese students were significantly different according to Korean proficiency level.
Third, there were significant differences in Korean university adjustments of Chinese students according to study course and length of stay.
2) The differences in Korean university adjustments according to leisure satisfaction and self-esteem group of Chinese students
First, there were significant differences in academic adjustment of Chinese students according to psychological satisfaction, environmental satisfaction, social satisfaction, relaxational satisfaction, educational satisfaction and self-esteem level.
Second, there were significant differences in social adjustment of Chinese students according to psychological satisfaction, environmental satisfaction, social satisfaction, relaxational satisfaction, educational satisfaction and self-esteem level.
Third, there were significant differences in personal-emotional adjustment of Chinese students according to psychological satisfaction and self-esteem level.
Fourth, there were significant differences in university environmental adjustment of Chinese students according to psychological satisfaction, environmental satisfaction, social satisfaction, relaxational satisfaction and self-esteem level.
3) Variables affecting Korean university adjustments of Chinese students
① The relationship among Korean university adjustments and leisure satisfaction, self-esteem of Chinese students
There was the significant positive relationship among Chinese students' academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, university environmental adjustment, psychological satisfaction, environmental satisfaction, social satisfaction, relaxational satisfaction, educational satisfaction and self-esteem.
② The effects of leisure satisfaction and self-esteem on Korean university adjustments of Chinese students
First, the highest variable explaining academic adjustment was leisure satisfaction, and the most powerful predictor was the self-esteem. The higher psychological satisfaction was, the higher social satisfaction was. And the higher self-esteem level was, the higher academic adjustment was.
Second, the highest variable explaining social adjustment was leisure satisfaction, and the most powerful predictor was the self-esteem. The higher psychological satisfaction was, the higher environmental satisfaction was. And the higher self-esteem level was, the higher social adjustment was.
Third, the highest variable explaining personal-emotional adjustment was self-esteem, and the most powerful predictor was the self-esteem. The higher self-esteem level was, the higher personal-emotional adjustment was.
Fourth, the highest variable explaining university environmental adjustment was leisure satisfaction, and the most powerful predictor was the self-esteem. The higher environmental satisfaction was, the higher social satisfaction was. And the higher self-esteem level was, the higher university environmental adjustment was.
This research can contribute to the Korean university life adjustments of Chinese students. It will be a useful data which create cases of a satisfied university life education and leisure policy. As well, it will provide the basic data for keeping Chinese students quantity and leisure welfare plan. The value is worth to expect.
