The purpose of educating Korean language is to enhance the learner’s ability to communicate. This study gives a guideline to that purpose using K-pop music.
K-pop music is music that anyone who has Korean as their mother tongue can enjoy. The fact that majority, from a child to adults, encounter such music makes the language embedded have an effect on the majority. The way of communication inside mediocre music is a data that can be used to understand Korean society. It also shows the various aspects of Korean culture. Those who study Korean through media learn the structure and lexicons of Korean easily. Under the premise of that those factors of K-pop can be a good source the study starts.
This study is used to show the way to facilitate the educative aspects of lyrics in K-pop.
In chapter 2 and 3, how K-pop is effective in teaching Korean and how to use K-pop in Korean language class is written. The standards in order for K-pop to be a source for Korean education are also shown. And procedures to use K-pop in Korean education is written, divided by each sectors of language education. The gives examples of how K-pop can be used in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, also including how to use culture and literature. In educating foreign language through songs class using all the aspects of language can be effective. So in an integrated form of listening, speaking, reading, and writing is used to teach culture, language, and literature of Korea through K-pop.
In chapter 4 the reality of Korean education through K-pop is shown. The song <산골소년의 사랑이야기>, which had motif from the novel <소나기>, is applied to the integrated structure shown in chapter 3, and the results are also shown.
Using songs in educating foreign language is already seen in a lot of countries including the US. But in Korea, endeavor for that field is below average. This also shows the limit in developing such effective means of teaching the linguistic characteristics of Korean language in K-pop. Showing the list of K-pop that is appropriate for teaching Korean and the level of education of the students can be an example.
I hope research on using K-pop in teaching Korean livens up. Especially in teaching the characteristics and communication skills through K-pop in Korean education should be facilitated. Then the learners can study Korean in joy while contributing to the education of culture and literacy over the first goal of education of communicating skills.
