The number of foreigners living in Korea has become 1.4 million and the number of immigrants from non-Korean language speaking countries is increasing. For the foreigners and immigrants, the basic communication skill in Korean is definitely necessary in their daily life. Korean government has built schools and developed KFL (Korean as a foreign language) text books for the KFL education. However, the education of KFL is not sufficient yet and the text books are not easy for them to learn yet because of the language differences from their native languages.
This develops simple Korean sentence patterns for the KFL learners and automatic KFL parsing program. The patterns are derived from an existing KFL text book to reflect practical use such as daily life communication dialogs. They are simplified by keeping simple word orders, and by changing or modifying some part of the sentences as far as it keeps their meaning same. The simplified Korean sentence patterns are represented in CFG(Context Free Grammar) and are implemented as a parser using the compiler constructions tools, Lex and Yacc. The parser was tested with the sentences from the KFL text book and the basic construction methods of patterns are explained for further improvement.
