Korea and China have been exchanging for a long time. Since the establishment of diplomatic relation between the P.R.C and the R.O.K in 1992, the relationship between the two countries became more and more closer in politics, economy and culture.
The purpose of the study is to find out rules of Korean four-character idioms for the TOPIK (Test Of Proficiency In Korean) exam, and to help Chinese students with effective learning and interesting studying in Korea.
First, this is to arouse the readers’ interest of the classifications, the origins and interesting stories of four-character idioms. Second, the aims to compare Korean four-character idioms with Chinese four-character idioms on morphology and significance of the two languages. Third, in order to make an effective education scheme, I made a survey with a questionnaire and investigations in the . It also includes the analysis of the result of the survey. Finally, I did an education scheme on four-character idioms according to morphology and significance of the two languages.
Part 2 of the is about the classifications of Korean-Chinese four-character idioms. First, it describes the classifications of Korean-Chinese four-character-idiom origins. There are 5 types of Korean four-character-idiom origins: 1) four-character idioms from Korean history books; 2) four-character idioms from proverbs; 3) from buddhist terminologies; 4) from Korean geography and customs; 5) from Chinese literatures. There are also 4 types of Chinese four-character-idiom origins: 1) four-character idioms from mythologies and fables; 2) from Chinese history books and ancient poetries, religions; 3) from other countries; 4) and newly-made four-character idioms. Next is the classifications of morphology and significance of Korean-Chinese four-character idioms. The classifications are: four-character idioms with the same type and the same meaning, four-character idioms with the same type but different meanings, four-character idioms with at least one of those four characters is the same and the same meaning, and four-character idioms with all the four characters are different but the meanings are the same. Also, there are some other expressions, they’re not idioms but they are the same with four-character idioms. The rest of four-character idioms are hard to classify.
Part 3 is about the educational scheme of Korean four-character idioms. It aims to present the current situation of Korean four-character idioms learning.
The data in this is from the TOPIK exam and current teaching materials. According to these materials, I did the research. After that, I did an investigation which focuses on those Chinese students who study in Korea. I think I can make an effective educational scheme if I know students' ability very well. So finally I can make the educational scheme according to morphology and significance of four-character idioms, and according to the survey and investigation I did based on students.
