The exchanges in political, economic & cultural elements between China and the Republic of Korea has increased constantly since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992. Meanwhile, the learners of Korean have increased due to the demand of Korean. In this case the Korean textbooks, which are the vehicles between ESL teachers and Korean learners are becoming more and more important, so the relevant development of Korean and Korean textbook research has gradually increased.
With the 『Standard Korean』(published by Beijing University) and 『Korean』(published by Seoul University) as research objects, this thesis analyses the similarities and differences of the two kinds of textbooks, and illustrates the contents which needs to be edited through a comparison of two kinds of textbooks, then later put forward through an improvement scheme. First, this thesis elaborates the covers, illustrations, and educational objectives by comparing the forms of literature of the two kinds of textbooks. Then, this thesis analyses the differences of the two kinds of teaching materials through the alphabets, grammar, vocabulary, culture, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Finally, this expounds the improving scheme of the standard Mandarin with a resulting analysis of these two materials.
Compared with students who possess a perfect language learning environment in Korea, the domestic Korean learners can only rely on textbooks, so good teaching materials that are in accordance with the current trend are particularly important for the domestic learners. However, there is nearly no textbooks which are helpful for Korean learning, although China has published a lot of Korean textbooks. Several universities that have established professional Korean language education systems have published their own Korean textbooks, but there are many details in the books that need to be improved. This researcher hopes this dissertation can bring some help in the improvement of the Korean textbooks published domestically.
