An environmental problem of including global warming in these days is the important issue that is threatening even the existence of the earth. The opinion is dominant as saying that the global-warming problem caused by excessive use of fossil fuel will be able to have more fatal influence upon a weak nation and the poor class that are difficult to be adjusted to this. To solve this environmental problem, there will be a need of steeply reducing the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal or having a natural material-cycle system that our society can maintain the ecological soundness better than now. To do so, an innovative change will be needed in a human being's attitude and value toward nature and ecology.
This value change and the eco-friendly attitude can be said to be most effective to be formed through education from early childhood. A solution seems to be likely seen at last when this critical mind and practice on this are performed through early education in babyhood and when this behavior is continued until adulthood. Hence, the contents and method of environmental education for early childhood education institution are important.
In addition, parents' role is also important. Unlike the general education of simply acquiring knowledge, the environmental education can be understood even as the process that a human being clarifies own naturally beautiful essence. Accordingly, the best educator in the environmental education can be said to be just parents. Thus, even what a place of evaluating and expressing opinion about environmental education for early childhood education institution originates from parents seems to be likely significant work.
Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to suggest basic data for the qualitative enhancement in early childhood education institution such as offering parents with an opportunity available for expressing own opinion about environmental education for early childhood education institution, as providing early childhood education institution with a route available for listening to parents' opinion about environmental education, and further as expanding curriculum related to environment, by grasping parents' recognition and demand for the environmental education realities for early childhood education institution through questionnaire. A questionnaire survey was carried out targeting parents who are sending children to early childhood education institution. As for the findings, in the recognition on the realities of environmental education, 90.7% of respondents were recognizing that our country's environmental problem is serious. 91.7% of respondents were indicated to be feeling empathy with necessity of early childhood environmental education. Also, as for 'environmental education method' for early childhood education institution, the majority in the whole of parents responded as saying of being moderate, thereby having been indicated to evaluate not so positively on environmental education methodology for educational institution. And as for participation in environmental education, 78.3% hoped to join. Parents' participation in this way was being recognized to possibly double the effect of environmental education on children.
