Among the audiovisual material, Music Video, Movie, telegrams and so on, are closely related to the daily life of students due to its irreplaceable advantages, for example, it perfectly integrates the language, music and visual arts. This has not only made audiovisual material becoming more and more popular among young students, but also enriched the education methods of language teachers. Therefore, if Korean language teachers are able to utilise the benefits of different audiovisual materials as an educational material and bring them into the Korean lessons, it would be embraced by the students as well as improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Korean language education.
Nowadays, with the development of technology, Music Video, that allows audiences to listen and watch simultaneously, is replacing conventional music and becoming more and more popular in the public. The lyric and visual arts in the MV can be viewed as the carrier of the language and culture, and it could be better promoted and utilised than conventional music in the Korean language education. In that case, it is critical to illustrate: first, the aiding function of Music Video in the Korean language and cultural learning, and the language technical training; and second, the considerations of the teaching method and process that need to take into account when applying Music Video into the Korean language education. The main purpose of this study is to explore an efficient and effective approach of teaching Korean language by utilising the benefits of Music Video.
No matter in entry-level, mid-level and advanced-level, Korean mv contributes to the improvement of Korean teaching. Korean MV could not only assist the education in the area of Korean pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence form, grammar, and daily expression; but also facilitate the technical training in the area of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as Korean cultural knowledge study. Firstly, Music Video could help Korean listening learning through “MV song Q&A”, “Lyric Sequencing”, and “Lyric Completion”. Lyric completion could both train the listening skill of the student, and improve the vocabulary speculation skill of student in the different context of words. Meanwhile, Music Video as a mean to assist the improvement of reading skill of the student usually appears at the ‘Import Session’ and using the lyrics as a reading material. Importing Songs is mainly used for stimulation of students’ interest and introducing the reading topic from a more relaxed angle. Furthermore, Music Video could play an important role in assisting the improvement of students’ writing skill. Students could either write the reflection about the story in the Music Video or create a story based on the foreseen development of the story in the Music Video. Music Video could also help improve speaking skill by organising Question & Answer Session, Music Video story discussion and role-play after watching and understanding the Music Video.
As a conclusion, to enhance the effectiveness of Korean teaching, this conducted a study about using Music Video as a way to assist Korean language education, which could not only make the learning more pleasant, but also facilitate the Korean pronunciation, vocabulary, grammars, and cultural education. From the language skill perspective, Music Video studying, Lyric completion, and discussion and reflection on the Music Video content can promote students listening, speaking, reading and writing skill training as well. Korean Music Video, as an effective tool, plays an important role in Korean language education and language skill training. It would promote the development of language capability as well as enhancing the understanding about Korean culture.
