This is about Korean education plan using Korean idiomatic expressions. In learning languages, idiomatic expressions are necessarily needed learning contents. Idiomatic expressions which cannot be completely understood the basic meaning of words used to expressions but generate a new meaning by collocation of more than two words will be somewhat difficult contents to beginning level of learners. However, intermediate level or high level of learners should learn these. Only when using idiomatic expression freely, it can be said to ensure the fluency of communication. Therefore, this study intends to suggest an education plan using cultural background of idiomatic expressions in Korean education. In particular, it has the purpose to help the understanding of learners who study Korean and to make them to recognize the importance of cultural background by recognizing social & cultural characteristics which idiomatic expressions have.
In chapter 1, we examined the necessity of idiomatic expression education in Korean and the purpose of this study. Also, we suggested the direction and contents which idiomatic expression education go forward in future by searching how the study about idiomatic expressions is conducted so far. Then, we explained the method for this study.
In chapter 2, we arranged the concept of idiomatic expressions. We analyzed the questions of TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) for 10 to 24 times, and analyzed idiomatic expressions suggested to integrated textbooks used in universities which are sites of Korean education. Based on suggestions, we checked the actuality of idiomatic expression education how many idiomatic expressions are dealt in Korean textbook and which method is used for this learning and discussed the improvements. In case of Korean textbook for analysis, Korean integrated textbook which is used at Seoul National University, Sogang University, Ewha Women's University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, KyungHee University is used.
In chapter 3, we discussed about the directing point of idiomatic expression education which way this education should go forward in Korean education. Idiomatic expression education should not go forward to the way which only understands simple meanings. This chapter revealed learning idiomatic expressions can lead to the improvement of communication ability at first and it should be realized to the way to understand Korean culture finally.
In chapter 4, we examined the actuality of education plan using idiomatic expressions. The way which idiomatic expression education should go forward and was examined at chapter 3 is considered and the criterion of idiomatic expression selection to be used at Korean education sites is clearly made. Also, we emphasized the connection with culture education and suggested the direction of actual class.
In chapter 5, we reconsidered main discussing subjects of this study and examined the meaning of idiomatic expression education subjecting on Korean learners. Also, we clarified the meaning and the limit of this study and suggested the follow-up study.
