This study has started to find teaching method for korean language learners that makes learners acquire korean language very effectively and participate in the class with interests. Animation has been developed with media qualitatively as well as qualitatively at the same time and that is the reason this study has been chosen as a material for korean language class. For a long time cartoons have been thought as an uninstructive film for children and animation is based on this cartoon. Because of this reason, animation continues to be thought as an uninstructive film. Nowadays, however, the animation becomes very popular media since animation is covered from children's emotions to an adult's deep and philosophical content.
Animation has lots of functions as a language education method.
First, animation, which stimulates learners' imagination and has lots of expression methods, makes learners think creatively and improve concentration. Because of this, animation raise learners' interests to a higher level so that animation can become a motivation for learning foreign languages.
Second, animation can be used in various ranges, from children to adults. It makes the content and the vocabulary level of animation easier to understand. Because of this, animation can be practically used for novice language learners.
Third, animation uses daily conversations and pictures to make learners understand the context easily. Because of this, learners can learn natural and proper communication skill.
Fourth, since learners can watch situation that conversation occurs between characters in animation, learners can experience verbal expression as well as nonverbal expression indirectly.
Fifth, learners can practice standard language with narration that voice actor recorded professionally and conversation between characters in animation.
As previously mentioned, animation can also be used in specific language education which is Korean, too. This study has chosen 'Doggy Poo' within a lot of animations. Clay animation 'Doggy Poo' is chosen because of seven reasons: 'Doggy Poo' uses standard language; the professional voice actor recorded all of the conversation in animation, 'Doggy Poo' delivers exact pronunciation when comparing other animations; the contents of 'Doggy Poo' is very suitable for Korean language education; the level of difficulty is proper to the learners; 'Doggy Poo' shows Korea's culture naturally; 'Doggy Poo' can be used to stimulate four different linguistic areas of learners; and the length of 'Doggy Poo' is proper to learning Korean language.
Clay animation, 'Doggy Poo', based on Kwon, Jung-saeng's book, 'Doggy Poo,' is faithful to the original book. So this animation can be a key to approach the original work. In other words, the Korean language class which is using clay animation 'Doggy Poo' is possible to extend and deepen to Korean literature education through the original work.
'Doggy Poo' also has alive literary qualities, which is based on original book, as well as three dimensional effect described by using clay and background music, which fits storytelling. These elements can make learners experience various arts at the same time.
As mentioned above, this study shows the possibility of clay animation 'Doggy Poo' in Korean language education, and based on this possibility tried to find very effective and specific method for Korean language education.
Also, this study is trying to research possibility of this method to approach the purpose which is development communication ability specially nowadays emphasized.
