In this study, we made Chinese learners we selected for this study to pronounce the syllable which exists in Korean but doesn't in Chinese by combining the individual sounds which exist in both Korean and Chinese. We did the experiment to find out what kinds of errors appear and how their types are.
Before the experiment, we chose the consonants and vowels common in Korean and Chinese in chapter two by comparing the consonants and vowels of each country. And in chapter 3, we figured out what kind of limitations in combining phonemes exist for initial, middle and final sounds of both languages in a syllable and studied about the phoneme combination corresponding with Chinese based on Korean. In chapter 4, I combined phonemes with individual sounds common in Korean and Chinese. We pushed through the experiment of how Chinese learners pronounce these syllables in case of the combinations of phonemes which exist in Korean but not in Chinese and how the types of their errors are.
The results of the experiment are classified into three cases. First, the wrong pronunciation appearing focused on initial sound and final sound, and secondly, the wrong pronunciation appearing focused on initial sound and middle sound and thirdly, the wrong pronunciation which deletes the final sound. And in case the combination of phonemes doesn't exist in Chinese, Chinese learners even deleted the final sound after pronouncing the initial and the middle sounds.
We can be sure that even though there are individual sounds common in Korean and Chinese, in case of the phoneme combinations which don't exist in Chinese, they had difficult in pronouncing them and then made errors in doing them. Therefore, we implemented the pronunciation training using the constraints of phoneme combinations. We didn't have difficulties in teaching how to pronounce each sound as mostly there are no pronunciation errors in the existing individual sounds of consonants and vowels. Even though the individual sounds exist in both languages, the learners continuously made errors in case that the phoneme combinations don't exist in Chinese.
In this study, we used just a couple of phonemes among phoneme combinations and didn't deal with the study in detail of what kind of errors take place in other types. We need to study more various kinds of the errors in phoneme combinations. And even we don't conduct researches on pronunciation training through phoneme combinations. I hope this study contribute to the research of pronunciation errors caused by phoneme combinations.
