The purpose of this thesis is to characterize the errors of Korean conjunctive adverbs 'jeop-sok-bu-sa', from the texts of Korean language learners, and set up effective methods of teaching Korean in consideration of it. I also aim to define the individuality of conjunctive adverbs in Korean texts, in contrast to Japanese, in this process.
According to the increasing demand in Korean Language Teaching, the purposes of learning and needs of teaching which learners have, has diversified. So there has been a rapid increase in not only 'learners for general purpose', but 'learners for specific purpose' who are learning for being employed or studying in Korea.
At this situation, contrastive studies by the learner's first language and individual teaching methods on it, are no less necessary than studies of teaching methods which can be generally applied to leaners of various country. Also It is needed that we lead learners to develop abilities which organize written texts closely to Korean people. Conjunctive adverbs play an important part to make 'cohesion' and 'coherence' as one of the grammatical cohesive devices.
In this study I will analyze learner's texts, focusing on points as in the following. First, I will discuss how the frequency of using and the aspects of conjunctive adverbs change on the process that learner's Korean ability are developing from intermediate to advanced level, and how they are different from Korean's. Second, I will examine what the errors which show properties of learner's first language are, in errors of conjunctive adverbs which turn up in learner's texts, and what the differences between two languages that commit errors are. Third, I will analyze what the points that we have to let learners recognize are, when we teach conjunctive adverbs in consideration of learner's first language.
Chapter Ⅱ reviews theories which this thesis is based on. Above all, I will discuss the points that Textlinguistic contributes to Korean writing teaching, and next, the relation of 'coherence' and conjunctive adverbs. Next, I will clarify how Korean language teaching uses the error analysis, and what its merit is.
Chapter Ⅲ analyzes the errors of conjunctive adverbs in Japanese learner's texts. Above all, I take the statistics of total frequency of using and errors, from conjunctive adverbs besides conjunctive expressions classified by the meanings.
Thereafter, I will examine the matters of 'replacement' that are concerned in judging formality, the matters of 'replacement' that are concerned in Semantic Features or Syntactic Constraints, the matters of 'omission'‧ 'addition'. And I will look into concrete aspects and causes of errors. For example, There are the errors that learners cannot distinct the difference of meaning between 'geu-reo-na, geu-reoh-ji-man, ha-ji-man' and 'geu-rae-do', between 'geu-reo-myeon' and 'geu-reoh-da-myeon'. It can be accounted they were influenced by the meaning of 'demo' and 'suruto' from Japanese.
Chapter Ⅳ discusses the teaching method; show how to give the feedbacks effectively and I will show some teaching models to prevent the errors, based on the results of researches and analyses as above.
Learner's errors are clear evidence to show how the learner is recognizing target language. Therefore this study can serve as an aid to characterize the system of interlanguage of Japanese advanced learners.
