본 연구는 만화가 학습자의 의사소통 능력을 향상 시킬 수 있는 교육 자료로서의 활용가치가 있다고 보고 이를 검증하고 실제 한국어 교육과정에 도입하여 활용할 수 있는 수업모형을 제시하는 방향으로 진행되었다.
한국어 교육에서는 다양한 교재, 교육매체, 교육 방안이 개발되어 왔으나, 만화는 저급한 자료라는 인식 속에서 활발한 연구가 진행되지 못하였다. 이러한 만화를 한국어 교육 방안에 적용하기 위하여 먼저 만화의 정의 및 유형을 제시하였으며, 만화의 예술적, 매체적 특성을 고찰하여 만화의 교육적 가치를 살폈다. 다음으로 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 한국어 교육 자료로서의 만화활용에 대한 설문조사를 실시하여 만화텍스트의 한국어 활용가능성에 대하여 긍정적인 반응과 함께, 만화텍스트가 특히 읽기, 말하기, 쓰기, 문화 교육에서 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것이라는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 초급 보다는 중․고급 학습자에게 더 효과적일 것이라는 답변 등을 통하여 만화가 한국어 교육 자료로서 활용가치를 지니며 학습자에게도 무리없이 받아들여질 수 있다고 보고, 이를 바탕으로 실제 한국어 교육 현장에서 활용될 수 있는 자료를 선정하고 교수방안을 제시한 연후에 중 ․ 고급 학습자를 대상으로 한 읽기 기반 통합 수업 모형을 제시하였다.
본 연구에서 논의된 한국어 교육에서 만화 활용의 가능성과, 이를 활용한 교수방안이 실질적인 한국어 교육의 현장에서 도움이 되었으면 하는 바람과 한국어 학습의 효과를 높이는 다양한 교수법 및, 교육매체 개발의 활성화에 근간이 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

This study is to prove that cartoon can be a material for enhancing language learner`s communication ability and to present the class model adapting cartoon in Korean curriculum.
In the field of Korean education, various materials, strategies have been developed but cartoon has not been studied actively under the recognition that it is unappropriate medium for Korean education.
In order to apply cartoon to strategies for educating Korean, I firstly presented the definition and types of cartoon, and presented the value of cartoon text as a foreign language data dealing with the features of cartoon like media of communication, artistic media, educational media. With the examination about the educational worth of cartoon, in the 3rd chapter I carried out a survey regarding the usefulness of cartoon as an educational material and it turned out to be effective especially in reading, speaking, writing, culture education along with positive respond. Based on the response that cartoon might be more effective for intermediate and advanced learners than for beginners, this study judged cartoon can be worthy utilizing and be easily accepted to learners. Based on these, I selected materials which can be utilized in classes and suggested educating plan, and then I presented class model based on reading for intermediate and advanced learners.
What I hope through this study is making use of cartoon could be possible and educational strategies in this study could be helpful in actual classes. I am expecting that this study can be the foundation for developing various teaching methods and materials.
