The purpose of this study is using Narrative Literature in Korean education for foreigners to improve students' Korean language skills with understanding of Korean Culture. To maximize the result, this study applied Educational Drama to Narrative Literature to enhance the educational effect.
Chapter 1 presented the necessity and the purpose of this study, and examined the preceding researches.
Chapter 2 presented the necessity of Narrative Literature in Korean language education, referred the culture and language that can be educated through Narrative Literature. It also researched Korean language institutions where have curriculum that teach Narrative Literature. This chapter discussed the problem of the curriculum and suggested Educational Drama as its solution.
Chapter 3 considered the effect of Korean language education using Narrative Literature, based on the feature of Educational Drama and its purpose. Also this chapter suggested the model of the Educational Drama technique that can apply to the real Korean language class with <Hok-bu-ri yeong-gam(The Wenny Old Man)>
Chapter 4 suggested Educational Drama process using Narrative Literature in Korean language education as following: The model of Narrative Literature teaching-learning model consist of five stages; ‘preparatory stage → setting up the situation stage → aesthetic expansion stage → sharing stage → arrangement stage’. Here, Educational Drama techniques are suggested as the main activity in each stage.
Educational Drama through Narrative Literature helps students understand the Korean value and life in the Korean Narrative Literature, not just by the teacher's explanation but by Educational Drama techniques. Through Educational Drama, students can feel, experience Korean value and life; therefore, they can understand Korean culture better, and can have more confidence when communicate as an active, creative participants of the class.
Through comprehending the text, discussion and planning Educational Drama, acting on the stage, and repetition, until performing Educational Drama using Narrative Literature text, students can understand the culture in the Narrative Literature, and can improve their language skill at the same time. Educational Drama using Narrative Literature can bring educational effect, such as student's creativity, confidence, active participating in the class as well as cultural understanding and language improvement.
