It is a matter of common knowledge that the Korean language and Korean studies deserve attention overseas as well as in the country according as the niche that Korea occupies in international politics and the world economy is expanded.
More focus was shifted to educating the Korean language as a matter of the revival of our mother tongue centering around 100,000 Koreans or so under the new social and cultural atmosphere formed with the Soviet Union's open-door policy and independence in also Kazakhstan, and the demand for the Korean language began to increase according as Korean companies advance into Kazakhstan as the economic exchange between the two countries increases rapidly with the start of the diplomatic relations between Korean and Kazakhstan in 1992.
The labor market in Kazakhstan began to feel keenly the necessity of the specialists proficient in the Korean language, and the center of the Korean language education changed from the mother tongue education dimension for Koreans into the Korean language education as a foreign language according as department of the Korean language was opened in Universities that are higher educational institutions in Kazakhstan. Korea has carried out positively the activities such as financial support, the manpower dispatching for the Korean language instruction, the support for opening the Korean language course for the development of the Korean language education in Kazakhstan. But we cannot but have the doubts about whether the studies and various conditions for the Korean language education were accomplished enough, despise the quantitative increase of the Korean language learners. Also, it has various problems such as the setting out of the curriculum, teaching materials, teachers' quality upgrade and the educational method.
So, this research was aimed first at making a survey of what meaning the Korean language had to Kazakhstan Koreans, and if the Korean language had the possibility of the revival as the mother tongue through the Korean language education as the mother tongue in Kazakhstan and Koreans' language using situations. The second purpose was to make a survey of the position of the Korean language in Kazakhstan and what were the problems the Korean language was faced as a foreign language by arranging the institutions to spread the Korean language in Kazakhstan, and the third was to point out the problems the present education for the Korean language in Kazakhstan had on the basis of the last lecture experience of 1 year and 6 months, and to seek the future direction.
This research first made a survey of the historical background of the Korean language education and Goryeo language which was Koreans' language to make a survey of what meaning the Korean language had to the Koreans in Kazakhstan in Chapter 2.
This research grasped the problems occurring in the Korean language education course and the motive to learn the Korean language, the nature of the Korean language education after shaping the development process to spread the Korean language in Kazakhstan in the 1990s by making a survey of the status and activities of Korean social organizations and the educational institutions.
This research analyzed and arranged the practices and the problems of the Korean language education centering around the region of Kzyl-Orda.
This research made a survey of the educational history of the Korean language as the mother tongue aimed at Koreans, and the Korean language understanding and the language situation of Koreans, and the general conditions and problems of the Korean language education in Kazakhstan centering around the status of the educational institutions for the Korean language after the independence and (department of) the Korean language in Universities. Though about 20 years have passed since the Korean language education began in earnest in Kazakhstan, it is not easy to have a positive impression on the educational contents and the educational performance despite the quantitative growth of the Korean language course in Universities and of the schools for the Korean alphabet. It is required to make an effort to the development of the Korean language education in Kazakhstan and the development of various teaching materials even from now on. When we make this effort first, also the relations between the two countries of Kazakhstan and Korea will improve more.
