The purpose of this study is to investigate some of the family roles of English learning attitude and achievement for kindergartners. The significance and influence of the environmental ones among many factors of language acquisition were elaborated. For this purpose, 5 young learners were observed in the class and in the family. The methods of the qualitative case study included class observations and family observations, interviews, audio and video recordings and field notes which were used exclusively to collect date.
From the research, it is concluded that the family roles are important for kindergartners. The English achievement of the young learners was affected significantly by their home environment.
Firstly, the young learners who have good attitude and high achievement in English classes have chances of English environment in their family. They listen and watch CD, VIDEO, TV programs regularly.
Secondly, parents concern for English learning is a good influence for their children and gives more learning opportunities. The parents let their children study English and support and help them.
Thirdly, communication and interactions with family members in Korean are one of the factors for good English learning attitudes and achievements of kindergartners. The more kindergartners communicate and interact with their family members the more they have good learning attitudes and achievements.
Finally, award and praise of family members for children's good behavior influence them to do the right thing habitually and set a standard for their behavior. It influences kindergartners' attitudes during English class.
From the research results, I propose to have a responsibility of the family's role for their children's English learning attitudes and achievements. If parents want to make their children have high interests and achievements of English, they should have interests of English learning and give learning environments for their children according to the family conditions.
