Many studies have been made recently as to the korean pronunciation education, textbook development and Sino-Korean vocabulary. Still, less discussions are made about how to apply Sino-Korean vocabulary to Korean language education. Also, there are no particular Korean language textbooks or education institutions teaching Sino-Korean vocabulary. That's why Chinese students are making many mistakes using korean language due to misunderstandings of Sino-Korean vocabulary..
Sino-Korean vocabulary enable Chinese students to understand Korean more easier than other foreign students. Ironically, Chinese students make many mistakes using Sino-Korean vocabulary in Korean language, since Korea and China have been using Chinese vocabulary individually for a long time.
With the goal of minimizing Sino-Korean-vocabulary-caused mistakes targeting Chinese students studying intermediate Korean, this study analyzes Sino-Korean-vocabulary-caused mistakes and chooses necessary Sino-Korean vocabulary to introduce a Sino-Korean vocabulary teaching method for the students.
First of all, this dissertation has made a comparative study of Sino-Korean vocabulary meaning between Korean and Chinese. Second, the problems of existing Korean textbooks are introduced with the analysis of Sino-Korean vocabulary in the books. And lastly, the study presents Sino-Korean vocabulary with common mistakes of intermediate students through their assignments and cites the patterns of mistakes and plausible causes.
Accordingly, the first chapter presents the purpose and necessity of this study and a comparative study of existing studies. The second chapter states the differences of Sino-Korean vocabulary between Korean and Chinese comparing the meanings, forms and compositions. The analysis and problems of existing Sino-Korean vocabulary textbooks are included in the third chapter. The forth chapter analyzes Sino-Korean vocabulary mistakes committed by Chinese students studying in Busan. The analysis is largely based on the mistakes from the Korean writings of the students. The fifth chapter cites Sino-Korean vocabulary teaching methods for Chinese students studying intermediate Korean.
This study has started with the goal of minimizing Sino-Korean -vocabulary-caused mistakes targeting Chinese students studying intermediate Korean. At the beginning, the concept of Sino-Korean vocabulary is introduced and then a comparative study has been made according to the Sino-Korean vocabulary features in both Korean and Chinese. And the study presents Sino-Korean vocabulary with common mistakes of intermediate students through their assignments and cites the patterns of mistakes and plausible causes. Sino-Korean vocabulary analysis of existing intermediate Korean textbooks and Chinese characters teaching methods for intermediate students are included in this dissertation.
Considering that the numbers and uses of Sino-Korean vocabulary grow with the student academic achievement, advanced level textbook should urgently be developed along with intermediate Korean textbooks. Moreover, more studies for Sino-Korean vocabulary teaching methods are required.
