This is a result researched on a positive teaching method for some less standard students of English at the elementary and middle schools in Chungju. They have registered at the Jungwon English Language Center, Chungju(hereafter called Jungwon) as an extracurriculum out of school. The Jungwon has made up two small teaching groups, each 5 students to help them English study.
Korea Government has had a strong English Educational Program-SEEP from the elementary school since 1997 and the middle and high schools since 1945. However, the above SEEP policy has not yet been properly succeeded as following main reasons in Korea. In Korea, English is only as for a purpose of the entrance examinations for the universities, of which covers English grammar, ability of reading and translation into Korean. And the grammatical constructions of both languages of Korean and English are perfectly different at all, therefore those who graduated from the universities including high schools are unable to speak English properly in daily life or official business.
Here, Jungwon has had an effective instruction programme about English teaching in order to help the said less standard of them in use of a new English text books, such as 'Lets Go,' reading and work books as well as a native recording tapes prepared by Oxfored University Press, N.Y.
In this a theoretical and experiential results show as the followings.
First chapter is general instruction of the reason, scope and method of this research.
Second chapter is what is [SEEP] and possibility of the English immersion education including the bilingual language system.
Third chapter shows why we need to learn English so early stage under the political order than theoretical back grounds, to understand international comparative teaching systems of non-English countries, and what is a negative influence over the English education from the Korean as mother language.
Forth chapter is analyzed 16 factors and recognized effectiveness for the said students to have been learnt English for some period at the Jungwon.
Fifth chapter has the conclusion of this research as indicating how to make the less standard students give a courage for English study with assistance of the Jungang system-small group teaching for them.
