This study is about one of Korean teaching methods using cartoons and it has the goal of providing teachers with the right instructional models of Korean Language Education for foreigners using cartoons.
Cartoons can benefit Korean Language Education. First, Cartoons can be authentical materials. Second, Cartoons are made up of many metaphors. so it can make student who live in korea develope language using ability. Third, Cartoons can help to make a korean language class are cultural various. because Cartoons concern about current topics.
This study, based on selecting for education, tried to devise appropriate criteria for selecting Cartoons.
① Relation with the theme ② an essential part for language ability promote(metaphor, idiom, proverb, emoticon) ③ the degree of difficulty ④ neutrality ⑤ unifiable possiblity with other language skill
This study present largely from two aspects : one is for teaching how to read Cartoons and the other is for the linguistic functions of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Teaching how to read Cartoons consider Cartoons as object for korean language education. and it is consisted of reading Cartoons method to help student can understand Cartoon easier.
The part of teaching the linguistic functions of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. are not exclusive. Listening part present grasp the point after news listening, choice appropriate cartoon after news listening. Reading part present forecasting the points by Cartoons before read column, Comparing Cartoons with column. Speaking part present contents generation for discussion and debate, Comparing cultural difference with own country. Writing part present fill the blank caption in cartoon, using proverb, writing on internet board.
The significance of this study is to contrive effective methods of teaching Korean with Cartoons in the aspects of the linguistic functions and principles. In addition, the research devises techniques of using Cartoons as useful teaching aids during classes not confined just to understanding the situations and contexts in the Cartoons. I hope this study to be a small step in teaching Korean language, helping Korean teachers and learners who are willing to utilize Cartoons.
