The purpose of this study was to verify the acoustic characteristics of korean spoken, focus on the vowels sound, by the women immigrants from vietnam.
The subjects were 22 vietnam women immigrants, their mean age was 26.7 And the control group consists of 10 korean women, their mean age was 29.1, who lives in same province. Speech samples were analyzed in a computer using CSL system, all data analysis were done on FFT(Fast Fourier transform), LPC(Linear prediction coefficient) window for F1, F2, and F3 of vowels and Pitch of vowels.
The results were as followed :
On F1 vowel /ε/,/?/,/?/ showed a statistical significance at the significance level .05(P< 0.05), vowel /u/,/o/ on F1 showed a statistical significance at the significance level .01(P< 0.01) between experimental groups and control groups.
On F2 vowel /?/ showed a statistic significance at P< 0.05, vowel /u/ ,/o/ showed a statistical significance at P< 0.01 between two groups, and on the analysis of vowel' Pitch, vowel /e/,/ε/,/u/,/o/,/?/ showed a statistical significance at the significance level .05(P< 0.05).
Diphthongs /waks/,/wie/,/wep?ali/,/jagu/ showed a statistical significance at P< 0.05 between two groups. And Transition forms were showed to be 68.2%(16/22) at Diphthongs /jagu/, 22.7%(5/22) at Diphthongs /waks/, 31.8%(7/22) at Diphthongs /wie/, 50.0%(11/22) at Diphthongs /w?gali/, 31.8%(8/22) at Diphthongs /wep?ali/, 31.8%(9/22) at Diphthongs /?sa/.
The conclusions were as followed :
The first, for vietnam women immigrants, they had different articulatory patterns of /ε/,/?/,/u/,/o/,/?/ from those of koreans and expecially vowel /u/,/o/,/?/ showed a obvious statistical significance at P< 0.01.
The second, the Single-vowel /?/ on vietnam language is back-rounded vowel, whereas on korean language the same vowel /?/ is back-unrounded vowel. So we can reason that this difference make more interference between two vowels.
The final, according vietnam language have the six sound tone, on the pitch of all monophthongal showed high pitch, expecially vowel /e/, /ε/, /o/, /?/ showed prolonged articulation than korean speaker.
