Migrant women of multi-cultural family came to Korea through a specific way, the transnational marriages, face various difficulties in adjusting to the Korea's social culture without any basic knowledge and process of preparation on life in Korea as family member in the home of their Korean husband
There were some precedent studies focused on surveys of the actual conditions, status and social adjustment of immigrant women by transnational marriages and the family conflicts and problems oriented contents, but migrant women are living being forced to be assimilated and to be absorbed into Korean social culture in one way, rather than integrating themselves to the belief system, life style, social relationship network, and habitual patterns of Korea. Therefore, this study is seeking to provide help for them to live as adapted life as healthy Koreans by exploring to identify on what factors have effects on the adaptation to Korean social culture by migrant women of multi-cultural family in this situation.
This study aimed to identify the characteristics of migrant women of multi-cultural family who are living in Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do, in terms of their socio-demographic and sociocultural adaptation related factors, then to verify the relationship of their adaptation level with socio-demographic characteristics factors, language adjustment and social support.
The study sampled out migrant women from 8 countries such as China (Joseon-tribe, Han-tribe), Vietnam, Mongolia, Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan as residents of Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do as its subjects.
The questionnaire survey was undertaken over about 4 weeks from March 20, 2009 to April 20, 2009 with a questionnaire sheet that was translated into English, Chinese and Vietnamese for the survey subjects.

Secondly, for the ability of Korean husband for the native language of foreign wife according to the sociodemographic characteristics, it suggested that there were statistically significant differences in terms of wife's religions and marriage duration.
Thirdly, for the social support according to the sociodemographic characteristics, it suggested that there were statistically significant differences in terms of husband's religion and the reason for marriage.
Forth, for the sociocultural adaptation to Korea according to the sociodemographic characteristics, it suggested that there were statistically significant differences in terms of wife's nationality, education background, marriage duration and reason for marriage.
Recommendations based on these results of this study are as follows.
First, matters to be taken into account for reinforcement of sociocultural adaptation program development for migrant women and their adjustment, were the variety in age, education level, nationality, stay duration, language level and family related characteristics . These should be fully considered for reinforcing development by different steps, in systematic and continuous way.
Secondly, it will be necessary to enhance the regulations of the government on the commercial mediating agencies and to legislate and enact a separate statute to govern illegal transnational marriage mediation. The greed of commercial mediating agencies is one of major causes to make the settlement and adaptation to Korean society of the migrant women.
Thirdly, a political assistance system should be established as an economic support measure for migrant women of multi-cultural family. It should be more detailed assistance to prevent conflicts rising from inability to provide financial support the family of foreign wives
Forth, migrant women of multi-cultural family should not be demanded on assimilation by force in one way, but should be allowed to keep their own cultural identities with respect. For this purpose, a policy to induce such adaptation to Korean society and culture needs to be firmed established.
