Japanese "noda" is one of the predicative forms most frequently used in everyday conversation as well as sentences. As it is frequently used, it is a grammatic form the usage of which is hard to understand correctly. In case of Japanese learners whose first language is Korean, they tend to misuse "noda because they interpret it as "geosida." I consider that it is because they think "noda" can be divided into the quasi-free noun "no" and the auxiliary verb "da" which in Korean are the bound noun "geos" and the copula word "ida."
This misuse rises in relation to the usage of "noda." I, in turn, paid attention to it and went on with this study.
I compared "noda" sentences in Japanese modern novels with each corresponding Korean translation. Through the comparison, this study is designed to understand the usage of "noda" and analyze various Korean expressions corresponding to "noda".
In terms of Korean expressions corresponding to "noda," as a result of this study, "geosida" occupied the biggest proportion. I could identify that many corresponding expressions has been used other than "geosida." In case that there were not any corresponding expressions, significant amount of liberal translation by translators were found. I consider that this is because of the translators' decisions that it might be natural not to translate "noda" or translate it liberally.
As it is hard to understand the usage of "noda," there are many corresponding expressions. Therefore, through various cases of "noda" translation, I hope this study will be of help for Japanese learners' "noda" learning.
Finally, there were many cases that there were no expressions corresponding to each form of "noda." However, I could not find any rules about which forms expressions do not usually correspond to. I am going to leave it for further studies.
