이 논문의 목적은 영어마을 입소 전과 후의 발음 변화 중 치찰음의 발음 향상에 대해 알아보고자하는 것이다. Fluspeak를 통해 영어마을 4박 5일 정규과정에 입소하는 중학교 2학년 학생들을 대상으로 치찰음을 영어마을을 입소하기 전과 과정을 마친 후에 발음을 실험하여 비교해 보았다. 피 실험자는 성남에 있는 문원 중학교 2학년 15명으로 개인적인 특성을 모두 고려한 집단이 아니기에 모든 중학교 2학년 학생들의 현상으로 일반화시키기에는 어려움이 있다.
15명을 대상으로 실험한 결과는 발음별 사전사후 결과는 입소 전과 후의 차이가 있었으나 아주 미비하였다. 그러나 발음별로 봤을 때 입소전과 입소후의 실험에서 /З/음이 가장 낮은 점수를 보였다. 그리고 각 발음의 위치별사전사후결과에도 다소 차이를 보였으나 현저한 차이를 나타내지는 않았다.
결론적으로 짧은 기간이었지만, 원어민과 함께 영어를 사용하는 것은 발음향상에는 영향을 미칠 수 있으나 현저한 향상은 기대할 수 없고 지극히 개인적인 것이다. 그리고 특별한 발음교육을 하지 않고서는 발음 향상에 큰 기대를 할 수는 없을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of English Village for the voiced sibilant sounds of English pronunciation of middle school students, and to devise effective ways in English Village to educate English pronunciation for communication. The reason I chose the sibilant sounds of English pronunciation is that these are the most difficult for Korean students because the voiced sibilant sounds /dЗ, З, z/ are not common in Korean pronunciation.
To investigate these sounds of English learner's in English Village, I undertook two experiments using fifteen male middle school students, before they entered English Village and after they took an English course. However, it is difficult to generalize experimental these experiments to all Korean middle school students because the group was not chosen randomly.
There were two main results. One is only minor improvement students' sibilant sounds. The other is the /З/ sound is a much lower score than the other sounds both before and after.
In conclusion, the course lasted only a short time, and it gave only an overall small improvement in pronunciation ability, although this varied according to individual testees. Therefore, we cannot expect the improvement of our English pronunciation without specifically teaching this.
