(Abstract)
“Globalization”seems to give us a bright future by making the world one society in which people can share their lives together. However, economic globalization is another expression of restructured western capitalism and it will create a new system which further separates countries of great power and those with lesser power. Humbert said that economic globalization is the phenomenon which is created by among advanced countries.(Humbert. 1993,4)
Global funds move from the great powers to lesser powers while labor moves the opposite way. Labor immigration from weak countries brings discrimination and disadvantages in various ways.
We expected that human labor would be replaced by machine or electronic equipment. However, international labor immigration is increasing in particular service areas and women labor counts for most of it. Women labor immigration begins voluntary and independently. However, these women have to pay large amount of money in order to immigrate to advanced countries. In spite of paying big money, there are insecure and unfavorable situations for these women.
Women in weak countries decide to get married internationally rather than being employed because it costs less money. As a result, the number of young married women has increased.
After IMF incident in 1997, international marriage has been increasing among poverty level workers in urban areas. Actual statistic shows that the international marriage rate is higher in cities than in rural areas. This means that many immigrants live in the city.
We have been considering immigrant women in rural area but not immigrants in urban areas. Even though the majority of immigrant women are living in the city. We have to notice that these women have as many problems as the immigrant women in rural areas have because they have married in the poverty level population.
There are over 130,000 international married women. While in no way exact, the presumed number of married immigrant women in Kyungbuk was about 4,000 in April 2007.In Kumi city, there are 500 married immigrant women. Among them, 80 women are living in rural areas and 420 are living in urban areas. In Kyungbuk, 34.25 % of their spouses are working in agriculture and fishery. This rate is much higher than the national average which is 11.7%.
However, Kumi is a unique case because Kumi is an industrial city. Here only 10.6% of spouses are working in agriculture. It is a lower percentage than the national average.
According to major research, our communities are not welcoming immigrants and there are discriminations. There is also a low satisfaction of immigrants. However, in Kumi, married immigrant women are more content with their lives as compared with others in different regions. They have a positive and passionate life style. They are also highly satisfied with their lives. We need to find ways to provide stabilization of lively hoods for immigrant women and their families.
I would like to present the problems and difficulties of married immigrant women and their families and find better ways to solve their problems. I hope that my study provides positive effects to multi cultural families and further more helps them to become resources in our society rather than burdens of society.
