This study is concerned about the actual conditions of Foreign Students' the Psycho-social Adaptation in Korea. This research is a kind of preparation to solve the social problems about foreign students, to develop the social programs for foreign students, and to practice the social welfare with foreign students in Korea. The purpose of the study is to examine Foreign Students' Acculturative Stress, Depression, and Adaptation to College, and to research the social welfare.
The chapter Ⅰ of this thesis is the introduction. The chapter Ⅱ is the literature review. The chapter Ⅲ dealt with the methods. The chapter Ⅳ dealt with the results and the analyses. The chapter Ⅴ is the conclusion. There are the Korean version, the English version, and the Chinese version of the questionnaire in the appendixes of this thesis.
The subjects were 350 Foreign Students who attended university at countryside as well as university at Seoul. The study finally investigated 350 copies. SPSS program was used. The study made use of descriptive statistical analysis, ANOVA, Correlation, Regression analysis, and so on. The SAFE, CES-D, SACQ and Population-Sociological variable were the scales. The findings were as follows :
Firstly, according to the research of the population-sociological characteristics and the actual consitions, there were 172 male students and 178 female students, 304 students were in the early twenties, and 133 students' major was international studies. 187 students' residence term was approximately 2 years. 144 students' Korean Proficiency was Novice Level of Communicative Competence. 149 students' home economy level was poor and 101 students' home economy level was rich. 232 students' answers about the religion were "I do not have any religion.". 219 students have part time jobs and 188 students' health was normal.
Secondly, according to the results of the analyses, the differences of acculturative stress attendant on special variables showed significant home economy level, Korean proficiency, and so on. The differences of depression attendant on special variables showed significant home economy level, health, residence term in Korea, and so on. The differences of adaptation to college life attendant on special variables showed significant home economy level, health, residence term in Korea, Korean proficiency, and so on.
Thirdly, The mean of acculturative stress is 47.32. The mean of depression is 31.78. The mean of adaptation to college life is 356.55.
Fourthly, according to a correlation of population-sociological variable, acculturative stress, depression, and adaptation to college life, between residence term in Korea and depression completed a significant correlation. There was a significant correlation between residence term in Korea and adaptation to college life. There was a significant correlation between acculturative stress and adaptation to college life. There was a significant correlation between depression and adaptation to college life.
Fifthly, depression has the most serious effect on foreign students' adaptation to college life. Age and residence term in Korea of population-Sociological variable have the most serious effect on foreign students' adaptation to college life.
There is a need to study and practice the social welfare services of foreign students. Furthermore, social worker and foreign student center have to develop the programs of social welfare with foreign students and offer all kinds of mental health services for them. Social worker is an expert in social welfare with foreign students.
