The purpose of this study is to present a scale for identifying age discrimination levels for children. Through this process, this study attempted to be an empirical study that can recognize children as equal society members by confirming the age discrimination contents experienced only because children are younger than adults. The age discrimination scale for children is divided into age discrimination at the cultural level and age discrimination at the individual and institutional level through reviewing previous studies, and this study developed items on the children’s age discrimination scale that can capture the actual appearance of children’s age discrimination through interviews. In addition, a total of 45 items were developed by assessing the validity of contents through consultation with experts. For the 45 items on the children's age discrimination preliminary scale, to confirm scale factors and item structure, 33 items in 5 factors were extracted from conducting the exploratory factor analysis for the data of 1,364 people in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Data of 1,910 students in grades 4 to 6 in 6 elementary schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongbuk were analyzed to verify the factor structure of the scale and to verify the validity and reliability of the scale. The validity and reliability of the children’s age discrimination scale were confirmed through the collected data, and the standardization of the results was made considering the availability of the scale. The results of the study derived from this research process are as follows. First, 33 items of five sub‐factors were extracted by the exploratory factor analysis on age discrimination scale for children. The five sub‐factors are 'perception of discrimination about ability,' 'perception of discrimination about maturity,' 'discrimination experience of self‐determination,' 'discrimination of expression opportunity,' and 'cultural‐social discrimination experience.' 'Perception of discrimination about ability' is a negative prejudice that children think that there is a limit to capacity, ability, comprehension, performance, and 'perception of discrimination about maturity' is a prejudice to recognize as incomplete beings that is, undeveloped existence compared to adults. ‘Discrimination experience of self‐determination’ is the experience of children who are not given the opportunity to solve problems themselves or that can be solved autonomously, and 'discrimination of expression opportunity’ means the experience that children's own views and opinions are not respected in the matter which affects children. 'Cultural and social discrimination experience' is the case of unfair treatment in the social relations because children are young. Second, this study developed an age discrimination scale for children with validity and reliability. In the preliminary investigation stage, 33 items of five factors were composed through item analysis and factor analysis. In the present analysis, 33 items from 5 factors were tested for reliability and validity for 1,910 elementary school students in grades 4‐6. The reliability of the five factors was found to be between .89 and .96. Also, 33 items were extracted as five factors in the construct validity analysis. Also, cross validity test showed that factor loadings as well as factor structure were the same between predictive and actual models. Third, this study presented the criteria of children's age discrimination scale to increase availability of the scale. The standard scores were used to determine the relative position of age discrimination severity for children in the group, and as a result, the understanding of the scale score was broadened and the usefulness and utilization of scale was increased. At present, children's age discrimination level is at least 20.7% and maximum 56.8%, and among them, the discrimination experience for self‐determination is the highest and the discrimination experience of expression opportunity is the lowest. If the origin score of age discrimination for children is greater than or equal to 89 points out of 132 points, then age discrimination is a serious level. The age discrimination scale for children developed in this study can be used as basic materials to search for ways to recognize children as equal society members with adults. If the previous studies are at a level that confirms the discrimination due to the characteristics of children, this study can provide information useful for collecting objective data on the age discrimination level of Korean children by using this scale, and can identify various aspects of age discrimination that can be experienced and perceived in everyday life or social life. Furthermore, it is expected that this study may be utilized as data for the study of child policies needed to build a society where children are free from adults‐centered thinking and children are recognized as sound citizens. ,韩语论文,韩语论文题目 |
