현대사회 속에서 음악의 접근성은 굉장히 뛰어나다. 레코딩의 등장은 음악경험에 공간적 해방을 가져왔으며 일상에 음악을 외삽할 수 있게 해주었다. 우리는 어떤 종류의 음악이든 레코딩... 현대사회 속에서 음악의 접근성은 굉장히 뛰어나다. 레코딩의 등장은 음악경험에 공간적 해방을 가져왔으며 일상에 음악을 외삽할 수 있게 해주었다. 우리는 어떤 종류의 음악이든 레코딩으로 경험할 수 있다. 고급예술의 음악이나 민속예술의 음악에 비해 대중음악에서 레코딩의 중요성은 굉장히 높다. 또한 작곡가나 악보의 권위가 비교적 약하고 실연자, 즉 퍼포머의 권위가 높다. 이렇게 전통적인 음악과는 다른 모습을 보이는 것이 대중음악이다. 본 논문은 이런 대중음악의 존재 구조와 가치양상 분석을 목표로 한다. 우리는 대중음악을 다양한 매체와 공간에서 쉽게 접할 수 있으며 그 자본의 규모는 엄청나다. 그리고 이젠 그 역사도 꽤 축적이 되었으며 내용과 형식도 상당히 발전했다. 부정적으로 묘사되던 대중음악에 대한 인식도 많이 달라졌다. 20세기를 지나오면서 수용자의 권위가 점점 높아짐에 따라 대중음악 현상은 더욱 복잡해졌다. 대중음악에 대한 논의들은 기하급수적으로 증가했으나, 대중음악에 대해 어떤 ‘판단’을 한다는 것은 여전히 어려운 일로 남아있다. 대중음악의 영역에서는 비음악적인 부분이 음악적 가치판단에 결정적으로 영향을 줄 수 있다. 기능적 목표를 위해 생산된 대중음악이 ‘예술’이라는 평가를 받을 수도 있다. 판단의 기준을 쉽게 진단할 수가 없다. 이것은 대중음악의 본질적 특수성에 기인한다. 대중음악은 대중사회의 출현 이후 크게 발전했으며 테크놀로지와 굉장히 밀접하다. 때문에 대중음악에 대해 접근할 때는 그에 맞는 적절한 기준들이 적용되어야 한다. 대중음악은 실제음악으로 현존하지만 대중예술이라는 범주에 속한다. ‘대중예술’이라는 점과 ‘실제음악’이라는 점은 대중음악을 구성하는 가장 근본적인 특성이다. 그렇기 때문에 필자는 대중예술적 측면과 실제음악적 측면이라는 두 선상에서 접근을 시도했다. 근대를 지나오면서 넓은 의미의 예술개념과 고급예술개념이 동일시되는 경향이 생겼다. 이 때문에 대중예술과 대중음악은 단순하고 저속한 것으로 여겨졌다. 이런 엘리트주의적 접근을 거부해야만 대중음악에 대해 올바르게 접근할 수 있다. 대중예술로서의 대중음악에 대해 진지하게 접근하는 것은 합당하며 전통적인 관점의 편견을 최대한 멀리해야 한다. 다른 예술범주의 음악에 비해 대중음악이 갖는 가장 큰 차이이자 강점은 바로 전통과 관습에 강하게 종속되지 않는다는 점이다. 이것은 형식적으로 빈약하다는 것을 의미하는 것이 아니다. 오히려 더 큰 가능성을 내포하고 있는 것이며, 이는 노래에 대한 분석을 통해 그 특수성을 확인할 수 있다. 대중음악은 강한 일상성을 가지고 있고 육체 친화적이다. 전문교육을 받지 않더라도 비교적 쉽게 향유할 수 있는 것이 대중음악이다. 하지만 동시에 고급예술에서 말하는 정신적 가치나 진지함을 지향할 수도 있다. 이런 다층적 성격은 대중음악이 갖는 미적 가치이자 힘이다. 본 논문은 이런 복잡한 대중음악의 본질을 포착하고 엄밀하게 고찰한 결과물이다.

This thesis aims to analyze the existence structure and value aspects of the popular music. We can easily access popular music in various media and spaces, and the scale of capital is enormous. Now that the history has amply accumulated, the content and the form also have improved along. The negative impression of popular music has changed a lot. Through the 20th century the authority of listeners increased and the phenomenon of popular music became more complicated. Also discussions on popular music have increased exponentially, but making 'judgments' about popular music remains as a difficult task. In case of popular music, non-musical parts can have a decisive influence on its musical value judgment. Popular music produced for functional purposes may be evaluated as 'art'. Judging criteria can not be easily determined. This is due to the intrinsic nature of popular music. Popular music has developed significantly since the advent of mass society and is very close to technology. Therefore, when approaching popular music, appropriate standards should be applied. Popular music belongs to the category of popular art although it exists as actual music. 'Popular art' and 'actual music' are the most fundamental characteristics of popular music. Hence I tried to approach it from two perspectives: the popular artistic side and the actual musical side. The influence of modernity has led to a tendency to equate broad concept of art with high art concept. Because of this, popular art and popular music were considered simple and vulgar. In order to have a correct approach to popular music, we must reject this elitist perception. Popular music is not strongly dependent on traditions and customs. This is the biggest difference and the merit of the popular music that can not be seen in any other categories of art. It does not mean any deficiency in form, but rather a greater possibility. Through the analysis of 'singing', I could characterize the distinctiveness. Popular music has strong everydayness and is body-friendly. Popular music is relatively easy to enjoy without professional training. At the same time it can also lead to spiritual values and sincerity that can be found in high art. This multi-layered character is the aesthetic value and power of popular music.
