The purpose of this is to study and analyse general public’s cognition of invention culture. A total of 401 people who live in Seoul participated in this research. As survey tool in this study, modified questionnaire was used, based on 「the index system of invention culture」 originated from Kwon O-ill(2015). The questionnaire items of this survey were modified and integrated moderately to general public. And they were reconstituted by examination the content validity and internal reliability. This survey was conducted from October 13, 2016 to October 19, 2016. The researcher selected the regional surveyors who visited and conducted the survey. The surveyor explained the nature of survey and provided background of the intent of this survey. The questionnaire was filled by the participants at the time of contact and the data were collected, coded, edited and analyzed by「SPSS Statistics ver. 24.0」. The descriptive statistical analysis was used to study the general public's invention cognition on the volitional and actional areas. Simple T-test and One Way ANOVA model were performed to analyze the differences of the cognition on the invention culture according to the general public's features. For verification of ANOVA results, Scheffé test was also performed. Correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship to 「the index system of invention culture」. Cronbach’s α was used to identify the reliability of the questionnaire through the preliminary test. To have a successful invention education, it’s important to consider various factors that can strength it. The general public are consumer, supplier of education, and creator of invention culture at the same time. The general public are also the consumers and the main subject of the invention education. That means they make up the invention culture and can not be separated from invention education. The general public reinforce invention education as the supplier of invention education and promote the base expansion of invention culture as the creator of invention culture. In the environment of invention education, the general public's cognition about invention culture has great effects on embeddedness of invention education, the social function of invention, and national competitiveness. Thus, in this , the study of general public’s cognition about the invention culture was explored and the results of this research are as follows: First, for the volitional area of general public’s cognition about invention culture, the cognition of both ‘invention & invention history’ and ‘invention ethics’ showed high, and that of ‘invention field(museum・historical sites・science museum)' was high in sequence. On the other hand, the general public’s cognition about ‘social activities related invention’ was low comparatively. The general public’s cognition about ‘the event participation related invention’ was definitely low compared with that of the other areas. And the cognition in the use of ‘mass media related invention’ showed the lowest. Second, For the actional area of general public’s cognition about invention culture, the general public’s experiences about ‘invention field(museum・historical sites・science museum)' were high. And the experiences of 'reading books related invention' were high in sequence. But those of 'competition related invention' and 'seminar related invention' were lower. Third, on the difference analysis of general public’s cognition about invention culture by the general background(gender, age, residence area, profession, having school aged child), men showed higher cognition on invention culture compared to women besides the cognition of 'invention field'. People with professional background and in executive position had very high recognition for invention culture compared to the others. Whereas, there was no significant difference in the cognition about invention culture by age, location of resident, and the person having children in education. Forth, on the difference analysis by the educational background, people who had past experience in participating invention-related educations showed higher cognition of invention culture compared to those who did not in whole area. Compared to those who were exposed in early invention education, those who had recent experience with invention education had high cognition about invention culture in part. However, they were not shown to be statistically significant on the whole. In conclusion, the general public's cognition about invention culture showed generally higher level cognition in volitional area which asks interest, willingness to participate, and value about invention culture. On the contrary, for the areas of invention culture that require active participation, cognition level was low. Considering the popularization of invention culture have an important effect on invention education, invention education can be promoted by the base expansion of invention culture. Therefore, the plan to promote cognition of invention culture should be established in the educational, political, and invention cultural perspectives. It’s important to reduce difference of cognition on invention culture areas by general public’s features. And it’s needed to try to enhance the cognition about invention culture on the whole.
