이 연구는 일상생활에서 빠르게 생산되고 버려지는 레디메이드를 지혜롭게 재사용하여 사물 본연의 가치를 재인식하고 본질적인 형태와 기능 그리고 역할을 또 다른 관점인 조명으로서 표... 이 연구는 일상생활에서 빠르게 생산되고 버려지는 레디메이드를 지혜롭게 재사용하여 사물 본연의 가치를 재인식하고 본질적인 형태와 기능 그리고 역할을 또 다른 관점인 조명으로서 표현하고자 하는 연구이다. 레디메이드의 개념과 정의를 바탕으로 인간의 개인적 삶의 영역이 확대되어지고 기성품이 일상생활에서 필요도구로서의 기능뿐이 아닌 예술작품이 될 수 있는 예술의 개념과 표현양식의 변화를 정리하였다. 본 연구에서 일상생활에서 쓰임을 다해 버려지고 쉽게 잊혀져간 기성품들의 조형적인 특성과 함께 변형이 가능한 요소들을 적극적으로 활용하여 업 사이클링 하였다. 이는 사용자에게 자신의 생활 속에서 잊혀져가거나 익숙해진 사물들에 대한 새로운 하나의 기억을 이끌어 내어 일상을 예술로 연결하여 즐길 수 있다. 본 연구에 선택되어진 폐 자동차 부품의 조형적인 특성과 자동차 부품으로서의 사용되었던 흔적을 통해 사용자에게 환경보호에 대한 자각과 역사와 스토리를 공유한다. 주로 사용된 표현방법인 콜드 조인트는 유닛과 유닛의 반복된 결합으로 단독적으로 표현할 수 없는 독특한 구조미와 새로운 조형을 표현하여 의식적인 형태 또는 자연적인 모티브를 상상하게 한다. 가벼워진 소비문화와 라이프 스타일은 환경문제와 밀접한 관계를 가지는데 본 연구인 레디메이드를 활용한 업 사이클링 조명 연구를 통해 환경문제의 심각성과 업 사이클링 디자인의 필요성을 자각하며 자원의 순환이 계속 되어 환경 문제 해결 방안에 적극적으로 나아가야한다.

This research aims to provide an opportunity to understand the natural values of articles of daily use by restructuring the ready-made articles to represent their original forms and functions into a new form of a light art. A process of upcycling was planned based on an understanding of concepts and definitions of the ready-made articles; articles should function not only as a necessity but also as an art expanding a life of individuals. In this research, articles that were discarded and forgotten after their usage were selected and upcycled according to their structural character and the elements that can be modified flexibly. Using the familiar objects as a source of an art work can facilitate users to be connected to art in their daily lives as it draws them their personal memories that otherwise would have forgotten. For the process of upcycling, parts of discarded automobiles were selected for two reasons: 1) their formative characteristics and 2) observable traces of users on the article. Through this process, users will be able to become aware of the importance of protection of environment and can share the story of the targeted disused parts and the history of scientific technology. The main method used for the upcycling process was enabled by using a ‘cold joint’. The ‘Cold joint’ can creates unique structural aesthetics and new shapes for its capability of connecting each separated units continuously, which can stimulate users to imagine conscious structures and natural motives. Arising environmental problem has a close relation with a simplified consumerism and the modern life styles. This research aims to call attention again to the seriousness of environmental problem and the need for up-cycling design.
