관례, 혼례, 상례, 제례를 일컫는 관혼상제(冠婚丧祭)는 생애의례로서 한 인간이 사회의 구성원으로 받아들여지는 의식부터 죽음을 맞이하여 사회관계가 단절됨에 따른 의식을 포괄하며... 관례, 혼례, 상례, 제례를 일컫는 관혼상제(冠婚丧祭)는 생애의례로서 한 인간이 사회의 구성원으로 받아들여지는 의식부터 죽음을 맞이하여 사회관계가 단절됨에 따른 의식을 포괄하며, 한 민족의 사회 윤리와 풍속을 집약적으로 드러낸다. 상례는 장례와 함께 상장례의 개념으로 통합적으로 통용된다. 상장례는 모두 죽음과 관련된 의례절차로 고인의 넋을 기리고 죽은 자에 대한 예를 표한다는 점에서는 공통적이다. 상례는 장례의식 이외의 절차를 포함하는 더욱 포괄적인 의식절차이다 전통 상례 전반에 대한 선행연구 검토를 통하여 전통 상례의 의의와 상례 절차를 간략히 재조명하고, 상례(喪禮) 도구(道具)로서 혼백(魂帛)과 명정(銘旌)에 대한 의미 및 역할 등 일반적인 고찰을 통하여 혼백과 명정에 함의된 상징성인 음양오행 사상을 자세히 사용절차를 정리하여 한국 전통 상례 도구의 유래, 명정(銘旌)을 세우는 이유와 의미를 바탕으로 그 역할을 연구 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 많은 예서(禮書)와 문헌(文獻) 등을 활용하여 연구하고자 한다. 그리고 상례절차의 예법을 통해 선조들의 생활문화위에 자리한 영혼관, 인간관, 세계관을 아우르는 사고방식을 엿볼 수 있다는 점에서 전통 상례절차의 예법과 정신을 정리하고 연구하는 것이 중요하다. 전통(傳統) 상례(喪禮) 도구(道具)에 대한 연구를 통해 우리나라 전통 장례문화와 상장례에 대한 체계적인 기록을 남기고, 더 나아가 장례문화에서 육체와 영혼을 기리는 방식과 그 안에 내재된 의식을 파악함으로써 전통 장례를 통해 나타난 조상들의 사고방식을 고찰하고자 한다. 인간은 종교의 영역을 떠나서 누구나 내세관을 가지고 삶을 영위한다. 근친의 죽음에는 슬픔이 지극하며 그를 보내는 공경의 예로서 갖춤은 인륜의 도리이다. 내세관에 입각한 사상은 고인의 저승, 이승과 다르게 여기지 않았기에, 가장 좋은 환경을 제공하는 것을 중요하게 여겼다. 의례는 죽음 이후에도 사람의 신체를 중요시 하고 품위를 지키는 참된 뜻을 알고, 그 내용이 의미하는 바를 정확하게 인지하여 생전에는 조상을 모시는데 섬김을 다하고 돌아가신 후에는 조상이 남긴 업적을 전하는데 부족함이 없도록 상례절차의 이해와 구조에 대해 알아보고 혼백(魂帛)과 명정(銘旌)을 중심으로 전통 상례 문화를 연구한다는데 의의를 두었다.

The Um and Yang and five elements, the symbolism implicated in Temporary Spirit Tablet and Bandrol, and its process of use are arranged through general consideration of the significance and role of Temporary Spirit Tablet and Bandrol as tools of funeral ceremony. The purpose of this study is to research the role of Korean traditional tools of funeral ceremony based on its origin and the reason and significance of setting up the Bandrol. This study will use lots of Yeseo(禮書) and literature(文獻). The ancestors' way of thought combining the concept of the spirit, the human view and the world view based on their culture of life might be peeped through the manners of funeral ceremony process. In that respect, it is important to arrange and research the manners and spirit of traditional funeral ceremony process. This study will leave a systematic record of traditional domestic funeral rites and culture through research of tools of traditional funeral rites. Furthermore, this study tries to review the way of thinking of ancestors revealed through traditional funeral by grasping the way of commemorating the body and soul in funeral culture. Apart from the realm of religion, whosoever men lead their life with an after-death-view. As the thought based on the after-death-view regards this world or the other world of the deceased as the same, it was important to provide the best environment. The human body should be regarded precious through the ceremony. The content of the ceremony should be recognized correctly to serve ancestors during their lifetime with the whole heart and deliver what they have done after death.
