Test Of Proficiency In Korea(TOPIK) is the test for foreigners or overseas korean who don't have Korean as a native language and their ability of Korean can be evaluated by the test. As time goes by, TOPIK is getting more and more powerful and it became a fundamental spec to get a job or pass a university in korea.
However, after analyzing the reading part from the 1st test to 32nd test It have been found that the test don't have systemic and specific frame for evaluation and the relative importance of literature is higher than that of non-literature.
Literature has not been questioned on the test for beginner and intermediate level but questioned only on the test for advanced level. I think the fastest way for foreigners and overseas Koreans to get to know about Korea is to realize language, tradition, history and emotion, etc of Korean with literature naturally. But The most basic level of TOPIK doesn't even treat literature properly.
To make these better, This thesis is going to figure out what specifically TOPIK is, why TOPIK has been being done and what contents has been treated on the test then find out the need of literature material related to literature ability.
As we analyze the questions about Korean culture in TOPIK, It is more treated in non-literature than literature and the contents is just showing simple information about geography, economy or something. Moreover, As we see the questions about literature, It just ask testers vocabulary and reading, not the emotion, Korean culture and so on.
To specify and separate the problems, investigation about literature questioned on the reading part of TOPIK, schematization of the investigation, classification with types of year, topic, matter, question, pointing out the current condition and problem and providing the direction with which we can improve them would like to be served on this in turn.
Through this study, It is found that TOPIK, one of the most trustful and impactful tests, is focused on not only on vocabulary and reading but also more on non-literature than literature on reading part.
The improvement of educational method is needed for foreign learners to efficiently learn Korean culture, emotion, tradition, history, and so on with Korean literature material over the basic education of Korean for them. Moreover, not to study Korean only for getting a job or communication stuff in Korea but to make foreigners adapt the Korean society more easily with literature material, Further study of how literature material can be used properly for them should be going on.
