우리나라의 음악교육은 바로크시대와 고전시대, 낭만시대에 주로 치중되어있다. 음악은 그 시대의 생활상과 문화를 담고 있기 때문에 현재 우리가 살고 있는 시대의 음악을 배우는 것이 중요하다. 현대음악이 중·고등학생들에게는 낯설기 때문에 그 시대의 사회적·문화적 배경을 함께 학습하는 것이 효과적이다. 이러한 통합교육은 2009개정 교육과정에서 추구하는 인간상에도 명시되어 있으며, 그 중요성이 점점 대두되어지고 있다.
본 연구에서는 제2차 세계대전을 중심으로 하여 학생들에게 낯설게 느껴지는 현대음악을 세계사교과와의 통합교육을 통하여 그 시대의 사회적·문화적 배경을 이해하고, 현대음악을 보다 쉽게 교수-학습할 수 있도록 지도방안을 연구해 보고자 한다.
문헌연구를 통하여 통합교육의 개념과 필요성, 유형에 대해 알아보고 예술교과를 통한 교육과정의 통합에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 현대음악의 개념과 현대음악 교육의 당위성에 대해 알아보고 제2차 세계대전의 전개와 종결, 전후 상황에 대해 알아보았다. 제2차 세계대전을 일으킨 히틀러에 대해 알아보고 히틀러가 영향을 받은 작곡가인 바그너에 대해 살펴보았다.
제2차 세계대전을 배경으로 작곡된 브리튼의 ｢전쟁 레퀴엠｣, 쇼스타코비치의 ｢전쟁3부작 교향곡｣, 미쉘 쇤베르크의 뮤지컬 ｢미스 사이공｣을 제재곡으로 선정하였으며 3차시로 지도안을 작성하였다. 1차시에는 2차 세계대전의 원인에 대해 학습하고 전쟁을 일으킨 히틀러와 그에 영향을 준 바그너에 대해 알아보았다. 2차시에는 2차 세계대전의 전개를 영상 자료와 함께 학습하고 이를 배경으로 작곡된 브리튼의 ｢전쟁 레퀴엠｣과 쇼스타코비치의 ｢전쟁 3부작 교향곡｣에 대해 알아보았다. 3차시에는 2차 세계대전의 종결과 전후 상황을 학습하고 쇤베르크의 뮤지컬 ｢미스사이공｣의 줄거리를 설명하고 뮤지컬넘버를 감상한다.
현대음악과 그 시대의 사회·문화적 배경을 함께 학습함으로써 낯설고 이해하기 어렵게 느껴질 수 있는 현대음악을 더욱 깊이 이해하고 효과적으로 감상하는 방안이 될 것이다.

The music education in Korea has been focused on the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras. Since music contains the lifestyle and culture of its age, it is important to study modern music, which reflects the current life that we are in. Since modern music is not familiar to junior high and high school students, it is more efficient to study the cultural and social background knowledge along with it. The integrating education is affirmed in the ideal image of human-beings pursued in the 2009 revised curriculum, and the importance is rising. This study is to suggest teaching methods to teach and learn modern music easily through integrating modern music which is not familiar to students and world history focusing on World War II.
Through research, the necessity and concept of integrating education, and its types are studied. Through arts curriculum, the integration of courses is studied. The concept of modern music, the necessity of modern music education, the development and end of World War II, and the post war situation was studied. Hitler which raised World War II and Wagner, the composer, who had influence on Hitler are studied.
<War Requiem> by Britten, which was composed with the background of World War II, Shostakovich's <War Trilogy Symphonies> and <Miss Saigon> by Claude-Michel Schönberg are selected as subjects, and the guidance is made in three class periods. In the first class, the cause of World War II, Hitler who raised the war and Wagner who had influence on him are taught. In the second class, the development of World War II using screen materials and the works which used the war as background, <War Requiem> by Britten and Shostakovich's <War trilogy Symphonies> are studied. In the third class, the plot of <Miss Saigon> by Schönberg is explained along with the study of the end of World War II and the post war situation, and musical numbers are appreciated.
By studying modern music with its social and cultural background, it is a more efficient method to understand unfamiliar and somewhat difficult modern music and have better appreciation for it.
