물질 문명이 급속도로 발달하고 있는 현대 사회에서 색채의 아름다움은 인간의 삶을 보다 풍요롭게 하고 있으며 형체보다 앞선 위치에서 인간의 의식과 무의식에 매우 중요한 영향을 미치고 있다. 인간이 인식할 수 있는 모든 물체는 빛이 있는 곳에서 자신의 고유한 모습을 드러내게 되는데 이 때 인간의 선지각상에는 형체보다도 색채가 먼저 존재의 의미를 띠게 된다. 즉 색채에 의해 인간은 물체의 존재를 단순한 질량감 만으로 인식하는 한계를 극복하게 되는 것이다. 또한 예측할 수 없는 속도로 쏟아져 나오는 문명의 이기와 복제화 되어 나오는 수없이 많은 부산물들도 그것들 나름대로의 고유한 색채로 인해 의미를 갖게 되는 것이다.
인간은 삶을 꾸려가며 민감하게 여러 가지 의미의 색깔을 생성하고 또한 그것을 영위해가고 있다. 이 의미는 자신의 삶의 체험 속에서 터득하여 나름대로의 독자적인 방식으로 만들어지는 경우도 있고, 기존의 의미화 된 어떤 관념 조작에 연관되어 그것에 의존하여 생성되는 경우도 있다. 후자의 경우는 이미 관념화된 의미, 상징, 연상과 이러한 종류의 지식에 집착함으로써 관념의 조작을 낳을 수 있고 이로 인해 순수한 감각 체험을 상실시킬 수 있다는 위험성을 내포한다.
색채는 언어로써 표현할 성질의 것은 아니지만 일상화되어 있는 현대인의 생활에서 의미를 주고받는 활동에 상당히 중요한 상징성을 갖고 있다. 이에 우리 민족이 주로 사용하는 색채어를 살펴보면, 한국의 자연환경과 기후 조건, 풍토 등에 의한 관습과 금기, 주술, 계급 표현으로서의 수단 등에 관련된 요소에 의해 주로 형성되었음을 알 수 있다.
우리말의 색상 표현은 자연발생적인 표현 방법과 한자어에 의한 표현 방법에 의해 이루어져왔다. 그러나 최근에는 다양한 외래 문화의 유입과 시대의 흐름에 의해 그 표기법 또한 영문화되어 가는 경향을 보이고 있다. 이러한 현실을 고려하여 우리의 고유어로 표현된 색채어들을 현재의 색상과 연결시켜 일반 색명이나 표준 색명으로 정리해 놓은 연구물이 나오기도 했다. 하지만 일선 학교 학습 현장에서는 이러한 색채어 관계가 일원화되지 못하고 그쓰임이 빈약한 실정이다. 이러한 문제점을 야기 시킨 가장 큰 이유는 우리말과 외래어에서 오는 괴리감 때문이라고 생각한다.
본 연구에서는 색채 학습의 기존 자료를 교육현장에 활용할 수 있는 방안을 모색함으로써 효율적인 색채학습 지도 방안을 강구하고자 한다. 아울러 이러한 연구의 결과가 실제의 색채교육현장에 응용되기 위한 하나의 기초 작업으로 활용될 수 있기를 바라는 마음이다.

In the modern society in which material civilization is rapidly developing, the beauty of colors makes human lives rich, and influences on human consciousness and unconsciousness more than form or shape. Any material of which human can be conscious shows its own shape in the area in which light exists, when it is perceived and identified as a color prior to a shape. In other words, by colors, human can over come the limit that human can perceive the existence of material just through the feeling of quality and quantity. Besides, modern convenience of civilization which are mass - produced bey ond expectation and so many by - products produced by duplication can have their own meaning of existence by peculiar colors of their own.
Humans, living their lives, create colors of various meanings, and manage them.
It means that they are recognized by their experience from their living and are formed by their own ways, or they are made out by being associated with established signified concept - manipulation. The latter can be made out by pre- conceived concepts, symbols, associations, and by adhering to these kinds of knowledge, as a result it includes the danger that it may lose pure experience in feeling.
Color is not what can be expressed by language, but has considerably important symbolic nature which can influence the activities to give and take meanings in the ordinary modern living. Hereupon examining the color - language (the words concerned with colors) shows that they are mainly created by elements concerned with the means to explain the customs related to Korean natural surroundings, climate, natural features, and taboo, conjuration, and caste.
In Korean, colors have been expressed by spontaneously generating expressing way and expressing way in Chinese. But in recent days, because of imported culture and the trend of the world, they also tend to be expressed in English.
Considering these conditions, some studies, relating color - language expresses in our own language to Colors expressed in vague, express colors ingeneral or standard colors. But in the very spot of schools, these ways of expressing colors are not unified and its use is rather poor. I think the main cause of it is due to the differential way of expressing colors between Korean and other languages.
The major aim of this study is to find out better, efficient ways to teach colors through trying to find good ways to introduce and utilize established color - learning materials in the scene of class. In addition, I hope the result of this study can be used as a basic tool to be applied in the scene of the classes teaching colors.
