The radio is a portable medium much for individual use. so it is a influential communication apparatus even in the heydays of television. However, it cannot be denied that the radio is not in center of listener's and researcher's interests.
But the policies to activate radio broadcasting, technical improvements and the strategies to survive lead to renaissance of radio. Despite these changes of surrounding conditions, the study on radio broadcasting doesn't still show signs of life.
Established politic studies on radio broadcasting documented the strategies to survive. Now Subsequent studies are asked to suggest the way each program should practice definitely.
This study is trying to make researches about radio news program. In radio news language is important and correct transmission of news content is more important. I selected 'language in radio news program' as object of this study for linguistic elements is essential and weighty in the study of radio news program. If anchor transmit the meaning of language in radio news correctly depend upon the accuracy of his voice delivery in addition to the correctness of sentence structure of articles. So I analyzed linguistic aspects of radio news in terms of uttering of anchor and construction of sentences. And through the results of this analysis this study set up a purpose to document the method of construction of sentences and voice delivery in radio news program.
By integrating existing studies I'll arrange the conditions of sentence structure and the terms of pronunciation and syntax which anchors should follow. That is expected to be a tool for analyzing news sentences.
This study is carried out by two analysis methods side by side. One is the case study of constructing sentences and delivering voice, the other is investigating the rate of the structures, lengths, tenses, modifiers, concords of elements in sentences.
The results of analysis are expected to answer the following subjects of this study.
[1] Are sentence structures easy to understand considering characteristics of radio news transmitted only through the voice of anchor.
① Are Words in sentences easy to utter and to listen
② Are the lengths and the arrangements of sentences easy to read and to understand
③ Are the links between sentences composed in harmony with the functions of lead-in, lead, body in each news article.
[2] Does anchor deliver news articles effectively in terms of listener's understanding the contents of articles.
① Does anchor read each syllable and each word in standardized pronunciation. ② Doesn't anchor misread the nouns and the verbs in sentences.
③ Does anchor abide by intonation, speed, stress, respiring considering the contexts of articles.
[3] What is the method of construction and transmission of sentences proper to radio news program.
The result of this study is as follows.
It should be taken into account that when composing a radio news sentences, listeners must grasp the contents of the news only through anchor's uttering. Composing sentences easy to read is more important rather than improving integrity of sentences. Therefore, words must be selected easy to pronounce and arranged easy to read. Sentences must not be too long and must be composed appropriate for the positions- lead-in, lead, body- in articles. When composed according to those principles, sentences can be fitting to radio news transmitted through voice.
But it does not matter only to observe those principles. A writer should keep the ultimate purpose of those principles. The ultimate purpose of those principles is to make up sentences easy to deliver through voice and enough to understand the contents of news.
The Anchor should deliver meanings of words and phrases like writer's intentions. He/She must examine whether he/she speaks in standardized pronunciation. Non-standardized pronunciation comes from individual habits. He/She must find those pronunciation problems and adjust them correctly. Besides, he/she must read repeatedly news scripts in advance, scrutinize words difficult to utter, change them to easier words to read through agreements with writer, and adjust lengths of sentences.
The Anchor should show a true perception that the listenability of language in radio news is at the mercy of the way of voice delivery and that it has a potent influence on listener's Comprehension of news.
When those improvements were realized, the listenability of language in radio news will be elevated and listener's understanding will become higher.
After all, More and more listeners will be concerned about radio news and that plays an important role in activating radio as a medium.
