Language indicators (demonstrative pronouns) are used by all human beings and they are incorporated in almost every language all over the world. Demonstrative pronoun (indicator) is commonly used as an important language component, including Korean and Chinese. However, there occurs a difference in meaning as Chinese characters belong to Sino-Tibetan languages family and Korean language belongs to Altai languages family. In addition, the Korean referential pronoun ‘이/그/저' (this/that/that) has “three separations” ternary system, and the Chinese referential '这 / 那' has the different “two separations” system. Therefore, it is important to understand the several sort of lexical system of demonstrative pronouns in different languages, which make them unclear in usage.
Indicators are used to show the reality of the existence of objects in space; the spirit of the speaker and the listener to imagine the space or directive referring to the object in the real space; and for pointing out an object in an expression. In other words, the object or phenomenon is issued or substitute a specific person, object, space, time, event, and a direct relationship with the degree that such measures will be used. The indicators are therefore targeted verbal and nonverbal pointing to picture the other destination and they do not have an individual meaning in the vocabulary.
In this study, Chinese demonstrative pronouns '这 / 那' and Korean demonstrative pronouns ‘이/그/저' are selected as a research target and their comparison (对比) and common usage will be discussed in the upcoming chapters of this research . The researcher analyzes the selected Korean-Chinese demonstrative pronouns and discusses the differences and linkages between selected forms. Therefore, the most representative forms of demonstrative pronouns from Korean and Chinese languages chosen for this study as a target in order to provide a basic framework of the indicators and to reduce errors that occur during the usage of pronouns.
The first part, Chapter 2, literature review about the most frequently used indicative pronouns in Korean novels translated into Chinese. The researcher tries to analyze the different types of indicatives, their usage and the difference from other studies on other s.
The second part, Chapter 3, discussion part of previously argued indicative pronouns in chapter 2. This chapter focuses deeper on the translation issues of indicatives from Korean to Chinese and learns about the differences of commonly used indicatives in both languages.
