파생법의 본질이 기존의 어근에 다른 요소가 붙어 의미를 한정 혹은 확대하는 것인 만큼, 앞으로 새로운 단어를 조어할 가능성은 무한하다고 하겠다.
본고는 파생법의 역사적인 배경과 그 정의에 대해 살펴보므로 파생법의 특징에 대한 이해를 넓히고, 파생법에 쓰이는 구성요소의 개념을 규명하였다. 특히, 파생법의 핵심적인 구성요소인 접사에 대한 이해를 넓히고, 명사 파생법의 특성을 살펴보았다. 특히, 파생 접두사를 사용하여 생성된 접두 명사 파생법과 파생 접미사를 사용하여 조어된 접미 명사 파생법으로 나누어 파생명사의 특성과 기능, 그리고 그 예를 살펴보았다.
이 논문은 5장으로 구성되어 있으며, 요약하면 다음과 같다.
2장에서는 파생어를 형성하는 파생법의 특성에 대해 고찰하고, 파생법의 형성 유형을 나누어 각각의 특성을 살펴보았다. 파생법의 핵심적인 구성요소인 접사에 대해 자세히 논하였다. 파생어를 구성하는 파생접사는 접사의 결합 위치나 기능에 따라 분류할 수 있는데, 각각의 기능과 역할, 성질이 달라 이를 자세히 연구할 필요가 있다. 본고에서는 우리말에 사용되는 파생접사인 파생 접미사와 파생 접두사에 대하여 각각 접사의 특징과 그 기능, 그리고 조어법을 검토하고, 파생법에 의해 발생한 파생어인 접두 파생어와 접미 파생어에 대하여 살펴보았다.
3장에서는 명사 접두파생법에 쓰이는 접두어를 고유어인 것과 한자어인 것으로 1차 분류하고, 이를 다시 생산성에 따라 제2차 분류하여 명사에만 접하는 것과 동사나 형용사, 혹은 부사와 같은 용언에도 생산적으로 결합되는 것들로 세분하여 살펴보았다.
4장에서는 명사 접미파생법에 쓰이는 파생 접미사가 어기의 뒤에 결합하여 파생명사를 형성하는 경우를 살펴보고, 이를 그 특징에 따라 분류하여, 자세한 예를 제시하였다.
파생법으로 인해 생산된 단어는, 원래 어기의 품사에 따라, 혹은 결합에 사용된 파생 접사의 특징에 따라 파생어의 품사가 결정된다. 본고는 품사가 다양한 파생어 중에서 특히 파생명사를 생산하는 데 있어 사용되는 파생법의 특징을 논하였다. 본고는 접사 파생명사를 사용된 접사에 따라 접두사와 접미사 파생명사로 나누어, 각각의 특징과 그 양상에 대해 살펴보았다. 또한, 이러한 특징들을 비롯한 접사 파생명사의 접사에 따른 분류를 제시하고, 자세한 예를 수록하여, 파생명사에 대한 이해를 넓히고자 하였다.
본고에서 사용한 파생명사는 주로 한글학회 편(1992) 『우리말큰사전』과 국립국어연구원 편(1999) 『표준국어대사전』에 등재된 것을 그 예로 하였으며, 각 접두사가 파생하는 명사들 역시 제시하여 이해를 높이고자 하였다.
이후에도 파생법과 파생어에 대해 여전히 논란이 되고 있는 부분을 규명하고 분석하는 시도가 활발해지기를 기대해 본다.

As the essence of derivation is to limit or expand meaning of a word by adding an element to a root, derivation has infinite potential for coining new words.
This study examines the historical background of derivation and characteristics of derivation, also identifies the concept of constituent element using in derivation. This study discusses characteristics of affixes which is the essential element of derivation. It especially examines characteristics and function of noun derivation. It separates the prefix noun derivation that uses derivative prefixes and the suffix noun derivation that uses derivative suffixes.
The study consists of five chapters and is summarized as follows:
Chapter 2 presents a theoretical base of derivation which forms a derivative. It classifies derivative by its formation type, considers character of each. The study discusses affixes thoroughly which is the key element on derivation. Affixes can be classified by its combinate location or its function, and they need to be studied in detail due to differences in their function, role and character. This study analyses characteristics, functions and word formations of derivative prefixes and derivative suffixes in Korean, also examines the prefix derivatives and the suffix derivatives produced by derivation.
Chapter 3 analyzes the characteristics of derivative noun and provides the list of the suffix using making an noun form. This study first classifies prefixes used in noun prefix derivation into Native Korean prefixes and Sino-Korean prefixes, and then classifies them by their productivity, into prefixes which attach only to nouns and to other predicates such as verbs, adjectives, or adverb.
Chapter 4 examines noun suffix derivation which creates derivative noun by suffixes attached after base. It also classifies it by the characteristics of suffixes and includes detailed examples.
Words produced by derivation were determined what part of speech they are according to the part of speech what root was or the character of derivative affixes attached. This study examines the characteristics of derivation which used especially to make derivation noun among diverse parts of speech of derivative. This study classifies affix derivative noun into prefix derivative noun and suffix derivative noun according to affixes attached, and it analyzes characteristics, aspects and usages of each. Also, it suggests the criteria for classification and includes list of detailed examples so that it can broaden the understanding of affix derivative noun.
The dissertation explores the Derivative Nouns based upon the Korean prefixes and suffixes appeared in the Grand Dictionary of Korean Language(1992) and the Dictionary of Standard Korean Language(1999).
Through this study, it expected that lively trial investigating and analysing on the controversial aspect on derivation and derivative.
