Honorific expressions in Korean are important for understanding the Korean language, life style and culture.
Koreans express respect and manners as well as close relationships according to honorific expressions. It is rather easy for Chinese to understand the "honorific expressions" in the Korean language, since they exist in Chinese language as well. However, the honorific expressions in modern Chinese are not as highly developed, which causes difficulties for Chinese to learn Korean language.
This four-chapter thesis, adopting the methodology of comparative linguistics, presents a comparative study of lexical and grammatical honorific addresses in Korean and Chinese languages.
Chapter One offers a brief introduction of the research subject, goal, and methodology, as well as a literary review of previous studies and findings in this field.
In Chapter Two, the author first defines and classifies honorific addresses in Chinese and Korean languages respectively, and then points out the similarities and differences of the honorific addresses's definition and classification in Korean and Chinese languages.
Chapter Three explores the specialty of the lexical and grammatical honorific addresses in Chinese and Korean languages respectively, and then points out the similarities and differences of them in Korean and Chinese languages.
Chapter Four summarizes the above analysis and expresses regret for this thesis.
