I tried to find some ways to help female marriage migrants' more stable, faster adaption in Korea by their satisfactory marriage and daily home lives through researching, analyzing the their current life state and satisfaction level of their marriage. For this purpose, firstly, I checked the demographic and statistical characteristics of migrant marriage women in Korea and secondly, I investigated whether self-esteem, depression, acculturation, family violence of husband, family and relatives support, professional support would affect the satisfaction of migrant married women. Finally, I suggested the basic information to improve the quality of their life in Korea.
350 migrant married women participated in this survey who are living in Jeonju city, Iksan city, Gunsan city, Jeoneup city, Kimje city, Namwon city, Muju-gun, Jinan-gun, Jangsoo-gun. 323 questionnaire were collected and 312 cases were used for analysis. The statistical method such as Reliability Analysis, Frequency Analysis, Correlation Analysis, One-way ANOVA, t-test, and Multi Regression Analysis were used through SPSS 18.0 program.
The results of this study are summarized as follows.
First, the demographical characteristics of those who were polled were mentioned below. the majority of migrants married women were 20∼29 years old(44.2%) and their husbands were 40∼50 years old(57.7%), majority of them have been married for over 73 months(26.9%), majority of them have been from Philippine(38.8%), majority of them graduated high school(41.0%, 51.0%), majority of their husbands graduated high school(51.0%), majority of their families earn totally an average of 1-2 million won monthly(34.6%), majority of them have no religion(40.1%), majority of their husbands have no religion(42.9%), and majority of them have the common skill about Korean language(48.7%), majority of them have one emotional communities(32.4%), majority of them have no occupation(61.2%).
The average score in the self-esteem was 3.01 a little higher than the middle score(3.0). The score in the depression was 0.85 lower than the middle score(1.5). The score in the enculturation adaption was 3.04 a little higher than the middle score(3.0). The number of the domestic violence by husband(wife abuse) in a week was 0.72 lower than anticipated. The score in the family-relatives support was 3.66 a little higher than the middle score(3.0). The score of expert support was 3.69 higher than the middle score(3.0). The total average score in the domain of social support was 3.68 and it is higher than the middle score 3.0.
Second, the actual range of the self-esteem was 22-50 and the mean was 35.97 higher than the middle score(30). The actual range of the depression was 3-44 and the mean was 20.62 higher than the middle score(30). the actual range of the enculturation adaption was 10-40 and the mean was 25.87 higher than the middle score(30). The actual range of the wife abuse was 0-30 and the mean was 25.70. The actual range of the was family-relatives support 6-30 and the mean was 21.96 higher than the middle score(18). And the actual range of the expert support was 7-30 and the mean was 22.16. The actual range of the marital satisfaction was 18-50 and the mean was 33.94 higher than the middle score(30).
Third, there was no multicollinearity problem because the correlation coefficients were all under .7.
Fourth, in order to analyze the factor to influence the marital satisfaction of migrants married women, two model were used. In Model 1, the multi regression analyses revealed that the independent variables consisting of self-esteem, depression, enculturation adaption, wife abuse, family-relatives support, expert support were significantly associated with the participants' marital satisfaction(p < .01, F=61.587, Adjusted R2=.548). In Model 2 some variables of participants' demographic characteristics were controlled, the multi regression analyses revealed that the independent variables excluding expert support, the independent variables such as self-esteem, depression, enculturation adaption, wife abuse, family-relatives support were significantly associated with the participants' marital satisfaction(p < .01, F=45.261, Adjusted R2=.631). Therefore, all of two hypotheses were supported.
Based on these results, some suggestions for improving the marital satisfaction of migrants married women would be presented as follows;
First, each or group programs will be prepared or carried out in order to their self-esteems.
Second, program development will be necessary to the positive factor of mental health for the protection of their depression and the increase of their mental condition.
Third, in order to adapt effectively to Korean culture in a short time the various programs such as Korean language school, regional community activity and friendly society will be provided, and the education program to motivate the expert and support their activity will be established in the private and the public sector.
Fourth, some devices will be basically arranged for the psychological stability and the marital satisfaction in Korea of migrants married women, and then such measure will do away with the wife abuse.
Fifth, the counselling will be prepared and the group activity program provided to them in order to build the concrete relationship among family and relatives.
Finally, there is a limitation to generalize the results of this study because the researcher surveyed only Jeonbuk Province.
But it is meaningful that this study has synthetically verified the factors associated with life satisfaction of migrants married women by analyzing their self-esteem, depression, enculturation adaption, wife abuse, family-relatives support, expert support.
