The purpose of the study was to examine the personality structure using 399 Korean personality trait terms based on the rating of 508 Korean adult participants. Data were analyzed with principal component analysis and common factor analysis.
In principal component analysis, 5 factors were discovered - Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness-Intellect, Neuroticism, Masculinity/Femininity. First four factors were similar to the findings of prior studies using lexical approach. Intellect(Openness to experience) factor was merged with Conscientiousness factor while Masculinity/Femininity factor newly emerged. Masculinity/Femininity factor seemed to reflect some feature of the Korean personality structure.
In common factor analysis, 4 factors(Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness-Intellect, Neuroticism) were discovered.
Considering the discrepancy of the results of the two factor analysis methods, Intellect factor and Masculinity/Femininity factor seemed possible but unstable factors. Implication and limitation of this study and suggestions for future were discussed.
