The purpose of this study is to present a plan of developing a new textbook by analyzing Korean textbook, which is used when Mongolian native speaker learns Korean language at home in Mongolia and by solving problems. There has been almost no textbook that was developed in Mongolia so far, thus the textbook, which was developed in Korea, is being mainly used. The majority of these textbooks are those that were developed mainly by having a proposition as what diverse foreigners learnt in Korea. As for the textbook, which is being used, what the grammar description and the text contents were translated into English or Japanese is difficult to be said to be the textbook that was developed targeting the specific language region.
A case of learning Korean language outside Korea is different from inside Korea in the learning environment of several aspects including the learner-group formation or curriculum. Accordingly, this study will analyze (centering on Ulaanbaatar University in Mongolia) Korean textbook, which is now being used, by grasping the present status of the actual Korean-language education in Mongolia in order to overcome this problem, will examine about the contents necessary for the textbook when learning Korean language in Mongolia, and will present a plan for development.
Chapter 1 presented the objective of this study. And, this is aimed to suggest a plan for examining and developing the constituent contents of Korean textbook, which is used when Mongolian native speaker learns Korean language domestically in Mongolia. Also, a method of this study was brought forth. Namely, as for Korean textbook, there were many arguments that diverse textbooks need to be developed depending on a learner's type. However, there are few researches actually targeting learners in the Mongolian language zone. Consequently, regarding development in this textbook, there is necessity of examination based on what was researched in diverse directions.
Chapter 2 examined the history of Korean-language education in Mongolia, present status of Korean-language education, and assignments. What Korean-language lecture was opened at the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as diplomatic relations were established between Korea and Mongolia in March 1990 did open a new chapter of Korean-language education in Mongolia. Since then, many special universities have been established. And, as Korean language is taught as a minor in local region, the learners of Korean language came to increase considerably. In addition, it is tendency that even the middle-and-high schools, which teach Korean language, are increasing and that the additionally small-and-mid institutes, which are the irregular educational institutions of teaching Korean language, are gradually growing. Given examining the Korean curriculum in Mongolia, the Korean major subject is being operated in the form that was mixed function and knowledge education from the basic Korean to the advanced Korean.
Chapter 3 examined the present status of the textbook, which is used at Ulaanbaatar University and analyzed some Korean textbooks. In other words, this university is using textbooks that were published by Seoul National University and Korea University in Korea.
Also, targeting Korean-language learners at Ulaanbaatar University, the survey of a response to the actually used textbook was conducted. This questionnaire research was carried out in September of 2007, and was surveyed targeting totally 69 students in sophomore and junior at the Korean-language department. The contents of questionnaire research were presented in relation to learner's goal and motive, satisfaction at the currently-used textbook, whether or not possibility of utilizing textbook when learning this textbook alone, the field that needs to be focused in the textbook to be developed in the future, economic problem about textbook, contents of textbook, or whether or not definitude, whether or not causing a learner's interest in textbook, and which textbook do learners want.
Chapter 4 examined the characteristics and problems about the textbook that is being used now at Ulaanbaatar University, and whether or not being appropriate for using each textbook. And, based on the results of the response survey that was conducted on the existing textbook targeting Korean-language learners, the problems were solved, and a plan of developing the new textbook was suggested.
