본고는 외국인 학습자를 대상으로 한국어의 준말을 체계적으로 이해할 수 있고 효율적으로 학습할 수 있도록 하는 목적을 바탕으로 한다. 5대 교육기관의 한국어 교재에 나타난 준말을 대상으로 하여 준말의 개념과 범위 및 형성조건을 알아보고, 이를 토대로 음운론적인 측면에서 준말 형성기제의 유형을 체계화하고, 외국인 학습자를 위한 효과적인 교육 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
준말의 사용은 사회 언어적인 현상인데 모국어 화자의 경우는 자연스럽게 익힐 수 있지만 한국어를 학습하는 외국인 학습자에게는 한국어 습득이 가장 어려운 문제 중 하나이다. 준말과 본딧말은 대응한 관계에 있으며 외국인 학습자에게는 준말이 본딧말에서 무엇이 줄어들었는지 준말은 어떤 기제를 따라 형성되었는지 분석하기 어렵고, 본딧말을 복원하기도 어렵다. 그뿐만 아니라, 준말에 관한 연구들은 다양한 관점과 접근방식이 존재하고 있지만 ‘준말’이라는 용어의 개념과 범위가 무엇인지는 아직 명확하게 구분되지 않았다. 특히 외국인을 위한 기존의 한국어 교육교재나 한국어 교육연구에서 준말이라는 개념이 많이 나타 있지 않으며, 준말에 관한 문제 또한 체계적이고 심층적으로 이루지 않았다.
본고는 외국인 학습자를 위한 준말에 관한 연구의 업적과 이미 발표된 연구 논문들을 중심으로 비교·분석하여 외국인 학습자들이 효과적으로 준말을 파악할 수 있도록 방법을 모색하고자 한다. 따라서 한국어 준말 교육에 적용시킬 수 있는 교육 방안을 다음과 같이 제시하였다.
첫째, 한국어의 준말의 개념과 범위에 대한 대표적인 논저를 비교·분석하여 공통점을 정리할 것이다.
둘째, 외국인 학습자들의 올바른 준말을 사용하기 위해, 준말의 유형에 대한 대표적인 논저를 비교·분석하여 정리하고 외국인 학습자를 위한 준말을 쉽게 학습할 수 있도록 음운론적인 유형을 제시할 것이다.
셋째, 5대 교육기관에 발행된 한국어교재에 나타난 준말들을 분석하고 외국인 학습자 대상으로 준말의 효과적인 이해와 학습을 위한 교육 방안을 제시할 것이다.
본고를 통해 외국인 학습자들이 한국어준말을 체계적으로 이해할 수 있도록 준말에 대한 이해력과 사용빈도를 증진시킬 수 있도록 한다.

When using language, the minimum time to accomplish the aim of proper straightforward communication is always expected. To achieve this target, the phenomenon of widely using 'Junmal', which means abbreviating of pronunciations or letters, is very natural. In addition, the 'Junmal' is more and more popular because of the development of computer and network. However, despite the fact that 'Junmal' in Korean Language is widely used, it is difficult to be standardized. In the past time, there were many researches of 'Junmal' from various angles, but the conception, scope, and category was still ambiguous until now. Especially. the textbooks designed for foreigners scarcely have any introduction to the 'Junmal' in Korean Language. Or even though the 'Junmal' was used in the case studies of textbooks, it was not specially explained. Consequently, the above situations make foreigners easily feel confusion in the Korean language learning process.
This explores the standardized and efficient method of learning 'Junmal' in Korean Language, within the position of foreigners. The basis of this is the definition of the concept, scope, and category of 'Junmal'. On this condition, the 'Junmal' phenomenon, which belongs in the textbooks issued by the five major educational institutions in South Korea, was collated and arranged to analyze the current situation of the Korea education. According to the result of this analysis, the education directory was established an effective education program for foreigners.
