I장에서는 연구의 목적과 방법을 소개하는 한편, 신조어를 분석하고 사회적인 의미를 끌어낸 선행연구를 검토 한다. II장에서는 신조어의 특징, 실용성, 편리성 등 여러 층면에 통해 신조어의 개념을 상세하게 소개하는 한편, 신어조의 형성배경 중심으로 연구한다. III장에서는 수집한 외래어의 용례를 통해 외래어의 수용과 발전을 살펴 보고 이 자료를 유형화하여 생산성 측면, 조어적 측면, 사회 문화적 측면으로 일반화하였다. 이것은 신조어의 외래어가 학문적인 토대를 갖추고 있음을 보여준다. 신조어는 사회적인 변화를 배경으로 사회변천에 발맞추어 끊임없이 형성되고 있다. 실제의 언어생활을 충실히 반영하고자 하는 국어교육으로의 교육학적 패러다임이 변화하고 있는 시점에서 신조어 교육에 대한 연구는 앞으로도 활발하게 이루어져야 할 것이다.
