과학교과는 신규용어의 도입이 많다. 용어에 대한 이해는 개념을 이해하는데 많은 영향을 미친다. 그에 따라 본 연구는 2007년 개정 교육과정에 따른 7학년 개정 과학 교과서들의 용어를 비교 분석하여, 수업 시 각 교과서에 나타나는 용어들에 대해 필요한 부분을 보충할 수 있는 자료를 제공하여 보다 나은 교수 학습 과정이 가능하도록 정보를 제공하는 것이다. 연구 자료는 7학년 개정 과학교과서 7종에 나타난 고딕체로 표현된 용어로 하였다. 연구 방법은 각 단원별 고딕체로 표기된 용어, 각 교과서마다 고딕체로 표기된 용어, 단원별 고딕체로 표기된 용어, 각 교과서마다 고딕체로 표기된 용어, 단원별 고딕체로 표기된 용어 중 각 교과서 별 그 표현이 없는 용어, 각 교과서 별 한자어·외래어·고유어 비율을 조사하였다.
연구의 결과는 첫째, 7학년 7종 개정 과학 교과서에 고딕체로 표기 된 용어는 총 342개이고, `지각의 물질과 변화` 단원에 나타나는 신규용어수가 가장 많고 둘째, 교과서 별 고딕체로 표기 된 신규용어의 수가 가장 많은 교과서는 B교과서이고, 신규용어의 수가 가장 적은 교과서는 E교과서로 나타났다. 셋째, 가장 많은 공통단어가 누락된 교과서는 D교과서였고, G교과서에 누락된 용어의 수가 가장 적었다. 넷째, 전체 교과서에서 한자어 비율은 87.67%, 외국어 비율은 8.39%, 고유어 비율은 3.80%로 나타났다.
다섯째, 개정 교과서의 경우 7차 교육과정에 비하여 단원은 줄고 쪽수는 많아졌으며, 신규용어의 수는 교과서 별로 많게는 134개 적게는 17개의 신규용어가 증가 하였다. 하지만 용어 수 증가에 따른 한자어·외래어·고유어 비율은 거의 변동이 없는 것으로 나타났다.
따라서, 학습자로 하여금 균등한 학습의 기회가 주어지도록 교과서 편찬 시 주의를 기울이고, 학교 현장에서는 학습자의 용어에 대한 이해를 높이기 위한 교사의 노력이 필요하다.

Science textbooks adopts new terms. The understanding of terms gives a great impact on understanding the concept. Accordingly, the study is conducted to suggest data that supplement terms in textbooks for the class through comparative analysis on terms in 7th year revised science textbooks according to the 2007 revised national curriculum in order to provide information for better teaching and learning process.
This research utilized the terms, expressed by Gothic, in 7 kinds of science textbook among the 7th science textbooks. The method of research was reviewing the term expressed by Gothic in each section, the term expressed by Gothic in each textbook, the term expressed by Gothic by each section in textbook, and the ratio of Chinese character, foreign words and Korean words in each textbook.
The result show firstly terms written in Gothic font in 7th-year seven revised science textbooks are a total of 342 and new terms in "The Material and Change of the Earth’s Crust" Unit are shown the most. Second, B textbook has the greatest number of new terms written in Gothic font while E textbook has the smallest new terms. Third, common words are omitted in D textbook while terms are least omitted in G textbook. Fourth, Chinese characters account for 87.67% in total textbooks, foreign words are 8.39%, Korean words account for 3.80%. Fifth, the revised textbooks show less units and more pages than the 7th revised national curriculum. The number of new terms is from 17 to 134 according to textbooks. However, the percentage of Chinese characters, foreign words, and Korean words are hardly changed.
Accordingly, attention should be paid to give the equal opportunity of learning for learners when textbook is published and teachers should make an effort to make learners understood better in class.
