한국은 컴퓨터 보급률, 초고속 인터넷 보급률, 디지털기회지수, 학교 정보화 시설 등 통신과 관련된 많은 부분에서 1, 2위를 다투는 국가이다. 이렇게 발전된 통신 환경은 통신이용을 생활화시키고, 인터넷의 급격한 발전과 변화를 가져왔다. 급격한 인터넷의 발달로 인해 통신 언어는 기존의 언어 체계와는 매우 다른 양상을 보인다. 표준어와 다른 형태인 통신 언어로 인하여 의사소통의 장애를 일으키며, 우리 언어를 파괴하고 있어 민족정신의 훼손 및 이질화를 일으키는 등 많은 문제를 낳고 있다. 통신 언어가 급격하게 확산되면서 통신 언어에 대한 사람들의 관심도 점차 증가하고 있다. 그러나 통신 언어를 습득하여 익히는 것만이 중점이 되어 올바르지 못한 통신 언어가 빠르게 전파되는 반면에 올바른 통신 언어 사용에 대한 관심은 저조한 수준에 머무르고 있다. 따라서 올바른 통신 언어 사용을 위한 관심의 측면에서 통신 언어에 나타나는 여러 현상들을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
본 연구에서는 네티즌들의 적극적인 참여가 이루어지고 있는 진화된 형태의 붐 게시판에서 나타나는 언어 현상을 살펴보았다.
첫째, 어휘적 측면에서는 비속어가 빈번하게 사용되고 있었으며, 일반인이 이해하기 힘든 다양한 신조어와 외계어가 사용되는 것을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또 약어의 사용이 두드러졌으며, 일상 언어와 궤를 같이 하는 외래어·외국어가 빈번하게 사용됨을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또 붐 게시판에서는 일상 언어에서는 사용되지 않는 감정을 나타내는 감탄사가 발달되어 있었으며, 통신 언어에서는 많은 단어들이 본래의 의미를 잃고 의미가 변화하거나 새로운 의미가 덧붙어 새롭게 사용되는 경우를 볼 수 있었다.
둘째, 표기적 특성의 측면에서는 다양한 이모티콘이 빈번하게 사용되고 있었고, 문장부호가 올바르게 사용되지 않거나 문장부호를 사용하지 않은 경우를 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또 한국어에 존재하는 단어를 정상적으로 표기하지 않고 특이하게 표기한 외계어적 표기가 나타나고 있었다. 올바른 띄어쓰기가 되지 않고 있었을 뿐만 아니라 띄어쓰기 자체를 하나도 하지 않은 경우도 쉽게 찾을 수 있었으며, 타자의 편이성을 위한 표기의 변화, 표기의 생략·탈락 현상이 나타나고 있었다.
셋째, 음운적 특성 측면에서는 경음화 현상이 많이 나타나고 있었고, 다양한 모음의 변화가 나타나고 있었으며, 첨가 현상을 살펴볼 수 있었다.
넷째, 붐 게시판에 나타나는 언어 현상을 문법 및 표현상의 특성 측면에서 먼저 통신 언어 전반에 비완결성, 서술어 생략, 서술어미의 생략 현상, 특정한 종결 어미를 사용한 종결표현이 나타났으며, 높임표현이 이루어져야 할 부분에서도 높임표현이 제대로 이루어지지 않는 경우와 ‘님’의 빈번한 사용을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또 붐 게시판에서만 사용되는 문장들이 나타나는 것이 특징적이다.
통신 언어에서 나타나는 다양한 현상들은 통신이라는 가상공간 안에서 이루어지는 언어 행위라는 측면과 익명성, 경제성, 개성 표출, 유대감을 형성을 목적으로 나타나고 있었다.
이러한 통신 언어의 다양한 현상들은 무분별하게 확산 사용되고 있다. 이러한 통신 언어의 사용은 의사소통의 단절을 유발하고, 우리말 규정에 대한 잘못된 의식과 태도를 확산시키며, 은어와 언어 폭력의 남발, 기존의 우리말 맞춤법, 문법, 표준어 규정의 무시, 문법 의식의 약화, 문법 학습 장애를 초래 등의 문제를 지닌다. 따라서 컴퓨터 통신 언어에 대하여 더욱 면밀히 분석하고 고찰하며 체계적이고 학문적인 접근을 통해서 통신 언어가 올바르게 사용되어야 한다. 이를 위해 국가적, 사회적인 차원에서의 제도가 뒷받침 되어야 하며, 학교에서도 올바른 통신 언어 확립을 위해 교육을 강화해야 할 것이다. 끝으로 지속적인 통신 언어 연구가 필요하다.

Korean has advanced communication environment. Such developed environment activates the daily life use of communications device, bringing the sudden changes and innovation in Internet. Due to the sharp IP development trends, the communication language show fairily different from the existing language system. The former has brought about a lot of problems such as the failure in communication and deformed Korean words. As the communication language extends, people show more interest in the communication language, while less interest in the correct words. Accordingly, in terms of the interest for the right communication language words, the purpose of this is to find out various phenomenon in the communication language.
This study examines the language phenomenon shown in the Boom Billboard in which the net citizens actively participate these days.
First, in terms of the vocabulary, the vulgarism, new words, alien words, abbreviations, loan words and foreign language are being frequently used. Emotion-indicating exclamations are developed in cases where the meaning is changed and new meaning is added to newly to be used. Second, in terms of the notation, various emoticon, marks, spacing, incorrect usage and alien language type of notation were shown, with changes in notation, omission for the purpose of convenience of others. Third, in terms of the phonological characteristics, much fortis phenomenon and various vowels are shown, with the addition phenomenon. Fourth, in terms of grammar and expression, the incomplete sentence, omitted predicate, omitted predicate suffix and conclusion expression using the specific closing suffix, as well as the terms of respect, frequent use of 'Nim(Dear)' and routine expression.
Various phenomenon shown in the communication words are shown for the purpose of facelessness, economy, expression of personality and the social connectedness in terms of the language activity in the virtual space called the communications.
Various forms of language used in the communications space are recklessly spread and used. The use of those words cause the interruption of the communication, spreading the incorrect perception and attitude widely for the Korean word rules, and showing the problems such as secret language, violent language abuse, ignorance of the existing Korean spelling, grammar, standard language. Accordingly, the computer communication words should be more carefully examined, analyzed, to be correctly used through the systemic and academic approach. For this purpose, the national and social system should support and it is expected to intensify the education curriculum in schools in order to establish the right communication language system.
