This study is designed to comprehend the importance of culture education in Korean language education, to analyze the contents of culture education shown in Korean language textbooks and to reveal problems and features in the textbooks. This study also analyzes four textbooks published by education centers in order to know the contents of culture education and the solutions in the textbooks. The main points of the study are as follows.
First, people are growing who are eager to learn Korean language and Korean culture. Accordingly, there are various researches for culture education in Korean language. Typical studies include a study on culture education, a study on classification by stages for culture education, a study on analysis for contents of culture education shown in Korean language textbooks, a study on conditions and problems of culture education and a study on methods to realize culture education.
Second, culture is a sum of non-material and material things made by people who live in a community. Culture can be learned because it is an artificial result. As a society has a close relationship with language, culture education for a society is necessary to learn a target language efficiently.
Third, culture is very extensive, though, able to be divided into four contents by levels or stages of learners. These are behavior culture, language culture, achievement culture and mind culture. A textbook for a beginner-class contains contents focused on living culture. Textbooks for an intermediate-class and an advanced-class cover various and intensive contents, while omit the change in the history of a relevant culture and show the contents of culture education as a presentation-like article to make learners difficult to understand the contents.
The study introduced the contents of culture education in Korean language textbooks. The study classified the contents of culture education by levels or stages of learners, analyzed them according to the classification and figured out problems and features. The study is expected to be useful for efficient culture education.

이 연구의 목적은 한국어 교육에서 문화 교육의 중요성을 파악하고 한국어 교재에 나타난 문화 교육의 내용을 분석하고 교재에 나타난 문제점 및 특징을 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다. 이 논문에서는 한국어 교육에서 문화 교육 내용과 교재에 나타난 제시 방법에 대해 살펴보기 위해 교육기관의 교재 4권을 분석한다. 이 연구의 주요 내용은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 최근 한국어 자체에 대한 교육은 물론 한국문화에 대한 교육을 열망하는 이들이 증가하고 있다. 이에따라 한국어 교육에서 문화교육에 대한 다양한 연구들이 발표되었는데, 대표적인 연구로는 언어 교육에 있어서 문화교육에 대한 연구, 문화 교육 내용을 단계별로 분류한 연구, 한국어 교재에 나타난 문화 교육 내용 분석 연구, 문화 교육 현황 및 문제점에 대한 연구와 나아가 문화 교육의 실현 방안에 대한 연구 등이 있다.
둘째, 문화라는 것은 공동체를 이루고 있는 인간들이 만들어낸 비물질적인 것과 물질적인 것의 총합으로 인공적인 산물이므로 학습이 가능한 산물이다. 사회와 언어는 밀접한 관계이므로 목표어를 효율적으로 배우는 데 있어서 언어가 속해 있는 사회의 문화 교육이 필요하다.
셋째, 문화는 광범위하지만 그 중 교육 내용에 필요한 내용과 학습자의 수준을 고려한 단계별 문화 교육 내용에 따라 분류해보면 행동문화, 언어문화, 성취문화, 정신문화로 나뉜다. 초급 교재는 생활문화를 중심으로 문화 교육 내용을 제시하고 있다. 중급과 고급으로 가면서 문화 교육 내용이 심화되고 다방면으로 제시되고 있지만 해당문화의 변천사에 대한 내용은 생략되어 있고 문화 교육 내용을 제시하는 방법이 제시문 형식으로 되어 있어서 학습자의 적극적인 문화 교육 내용의 성취를 기대하기가 어렵다.
이상으로 한국어 교재에서 나타난 문화 교육 내용을 살펴보았다. 문화의 유형을 학습자의 수준에 따른 단계별로 분류하고 그것에 따라 한국어 교재에 나타난 문화 교육 내용을 분석하고 문제점과 특징을 살펴보았다. 이 논문을 통해서 효과적인 문화 교육을 실현하여 한국어 교육에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
