완곡 표현(euphemism)이라는 단어는 그리스어에서 유래하여 좋은 징후의 말 사용이라는 의미가 있다. 완곡 표현에는 국가의 금기, 종교, 신앙, 예의 등의 다양한 요소를 포함하고 있으므로 외국... 완곡 표현(euphemism)이라는 단어는 그리스어에서 유래하여 좋은 징후의 말 사용이라는 의미가 있다. 완곡 표현에는 국가의 금기, 종교, 신앙, 예의 등의 다양한 요소를 포함하고 있으므로 외국인 학습자에게는 학습하기가 매우 어려운 부분일 수 있다. 완곡 표현은 금기 혹은 예의로 말미암아 직접 말하면 불편함을 주거나, 예의를 지키기 위해 표현을 바꿔서 우회적으로 표현하는 언어 현상이다. 따라서 사람들이 의사소통할 때 예민한 화제나 상대방에게 자극을 줄 수 있는 단어를 피하고, 상대방을 존중하고 배려해 줄 수 있는 완곡 표현을 사용한다. 특히 일상생활 중에 타인의 외모를 묘사하거나 평가하는 경우가 많다. 이러면 묘사나 평가하는 내용은 폄하는 의미를 띠고 있으면서, 상대방의 감정과 자존심을 상하게 하지 않게 하도록 말을 우회해서 해야 한다. 또는, 사회생활에서 언어 표현은 매우 중요하며 언어 표현을 통하여 인간관계를 형성하고 유지할 수 있다. 정확한 언어 표현을 통해 좋은 인맥을 유지할 수 있지만 잘못된 언어 표현으로 인해 사람 간의 감정을 상하게 하고 대립할 수 있으므로 관계유지에서 언어 표현은 매우 중요하고 표현을 선정할 때 조심하고 신중하게 해야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 대조언어학을 바탕으로 한국어와 중국어 외모 묘사 완곡 표현을 대조 연구하였다. 결과로 나온 한국어 외모 묘사 완곡 표현의 특징을 찾고, 중국인 한국어 학습자에게 원활한 의사소통능력 신장에 도움을 주고자 하는 목적을 두었다. 현재 한국어 교육에서의 교육 현황을 살펴보았으며 한국 국내 대학에 있는 한국어 교육기관의 한국어 교재에 나타난 한국어 외모 묘사 완곡 표현을 정리하고 교재 분석을 하였다. 분석을 바탕으로 나타난 문제점들을 제시하고자 하였으며 설문조사를 통해 새로운 교수법을 제안하려고 한다.

We can say that the frequency of the use of euphemisms in daily life is high, but it is presumably difficult for learners to learn the symbolism. Euphemism is a language phenomenon that we change our expressions into an indirect way due to the taboos and etiquette. So when you are communicating with others, it is better for you to use the euphemisms which can take care of other people's feelings and self-esteems. In our daily life, we describe or evaluate others’ appearance in many situations. During this situation, especially when the evaluation content is pejorative, in order not to hurt one's self-esteem, we should use euphemism expressions. For example, in the communication, we cannot use 'ugly', 'fat' to others when we are describing their appearances. What’s more, language is also very important in social life. Because we can maintain good human relationships through communicating; on the contrary, using wrong words will make people become estranged from each other. So we must take care when we choose the expressions. In this research, we analyzed the Korean euphemisms of appearance description, trying to find the distinctions of euphemisms between Korean and Chinese. We hope that this research can help Chinese learners when they are learning Korean or communicating with Korean native speakers.
