이 연구는 한국 사람들의 일상적인 언어 생활에서 중요한 역할을 하고 한국어 문법에서 특히 큰 비중을 차지하는, 한국어만이 지닌 특징이라 해도 지나치지 않은 높임표현, 그리고 중국어의 높임표현에 대한 검토를 기술하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
1장의 연구 목적을 위해 기초적인 자료 검토의 성격을 띤다. 검토의 내용은 첫째 높임표현과 관련하는 개별 언어 형태들은 어떤 것들이 언급되어 있으며 그 통사적 특성 및 의미적 기능은 어떻게 기술되어 있는지에 대한 것이고, 둘째 전반적인 높임표현 체계와 어휘적 높임표현의 관계는 어떻게 설정되어 있는지에 대한 것이다.
2장에서는 한국어 높임표현과 중국어 높임표현을 제시하였다. 둘이 다 주체, 상대, 객체 세 개로 분류하고 분석하였다. 그리고 한중 높임표현 분류에 대한 연구하였다.
3장은 어휘적인 층면에서 한국어와 중국어의 높임표현을 분류하고 제시하였다. 그리고 양국의 어휘 높임표현을 대비하였다.
4장에 문법적인 층면에서 한국어와 중국어의 높임표현을 분류하고 제시하였다. 그리고 양국의 문법 높임표현을 대비하였다. 중국사람들은 항상 다름사람의 억양을 통해서 의도를 알 수 있지만 보통 한국사람은 알 수 없다.
5장은 앞에서 제시하던 내용을 다시 정리하고 한중 높임표현의 공통점과 차이점을 제시하였다.

Honorific expressions in Korean are important for understanding the Korean Language,life style and culture.
Koreans express respect and manners as well as closerelationships according to honorific expressions. It is rather easy for Chinese to understand the "honorific expressions" in the Korean Language, since they exist in Chinese Language as well. However, the honorific expressions in modern Chinese are not as highly developed, which causes difficulties for Chinese to learn Korean Language.
This five-chapter thesis, adopting the methodology of comparative linguistics, presents a comparative study of honorific addresses in Korean and Chinese Languages.
Chapter One offers a brief introduction of the research subject, goal, and methodology, as well as a literary review of previous studies and findings in this field.
In Chapter Two, the author first classifies honorific addresses in Chinese and Korean Languages respectively, and then expresses the principles and characters of classification.
Chapter Three explores the similarities and differences of honorific addresses in Korean and Chinese depending on lexical variations.
Chapter Four identifies grammatical contrasts between Chinese and Korean honorific addresses. Chinese speakers realize honorific addresses through one's attitude in the tone of voice, which do not occur in Korean.
Chapter Five summarizes the above analysis and points out the similarities and differences of subject honorific addresses in Korean and Chinese Languages.
