우리는 매일 대중매체의 홍수 속 에 살고 있고, 그 가운데 방송매체를 통해 전달되는 언어의 영향은 그 형식과 내용에 있어 무엇보다 크고 폭이 넓다. 방송언어는 전파가 닿는 곳이면 어디든지 동시에 전파되고, 남녀노소 지위고하를 막론하고 언제라도 듣고 볼 수 있기 때문에 국민들에게 미치는 영향은 절대적이라고 할 수 있다. 우리가 사용하고 있는 TV나 라디오, 인터넷 등의 매체는 정보에 접근하기 쉽고 동영상, 그래픽, 사진 등 다양한 형태의 자료를 얻을 수 있다는 점에서 그 이용가치가 높다.
그러나 이러한 영향력에도 불구하고 실제로 방송현장에서 사용하고 있는 언어는 많은 문제점을 안고 있다. 비속어, 은어, 국적 불명의 외국어, 선정적인 표현 등 순화되지 못한 말들이 방송매체를 타고 우리 사회에 확산 되면서 국민 정서는 물론, 청소년들의 언어생활에도 악영향을 끼치고 있다. 이는 학생들의 대부분이 매체에 노출되는 연예인이나 MC, 리포터 등의 언어를 무비판적으로 받아들이고, 방송에서 나온 언어는 무조건 옳다고 믿는 경향이 있기 때문이다. 더구나 요즘은 음성언어뿐만 아니라 자막에 의한 문자언어의 사용이 활발해지면서 띄어쓰기나 맞춤법 등이 틀리는 경우도 많다. 또한, 시청자를 확보하려는 방송의 특성으로 방송언어에 대한 교육과 훈련을 제대로 받지 않은 연예인들을 진행자로 무분별하게 기용하고 있어 방송언어의 오용이 심화되고 있다.
본 논문을 위해서 사용한 분석대상은 방송 통신 심의위원회 위반 사유별 현황 자료와 KBS 한국어 연구회에서 발간한 방송언어 순화 자료집을 바탕으로 기간은 2008년 1월부터 12월까지 일 년 동안 KBS프로그램 중 잘못된 방송 언어 사용 실태를 조사 분석했다.
이렇게 본 논문에서 살펴본 결과 방송 프로그램에 있어서 전문적인 방송 언어 교육을 받은 집단이 많은 보도 프로그램의 경우 전문적인 방송 언어 교육을 받지 못한 집단 즉, 연예인 진행자가 많은 연예 프로그램의 경우나 점차 연예인이 진행자로 많이 나서고 있는 교양 프로그램의 경우 방송 언어 오류 빈도가 많아지는 결과를 볼 수 있었다. 이에 방송 언어 사용에 있어 가장 많이 잘못 사용하고 있는 집단인 일반 연예인 진행자 집단과 프로그램의 책임을 맡고 있는 PD에게 맞는 방송언어 교육 방안이 필요하다고 결론지었다. 그리고 올바른 방송언어 정착을 위해서 전문 진행인의 활성화를 위한 방안과 심의 감독 기능을 개선하기 위한 방안이 필요할 것이다.

We are living in a flood of mass-communication everyday and the influence of broadcasting language delivered via mass media is greater and broader in its forms and contents. Broadcasting language can simultaneously spread over all the places where radio wave reaches to and regardless of age or gender, people in every walk of life can hear and view it at any time. In this vein, the influence of broadcasting language upon the masses seems to be absolute. Such media as TV, radio and Internet are useful in that with which we can easily approach information and acquire a variety of data, such as videos, graphics and photographs.
Nevertheless of these influences, the broadcasting language in the actual scenes of broadcasting has a lot of problems. As such unrefined expressions as obscene language, slang words, foreign language of unknown nationality and suggestive remarks spread everywhere via radio waves, national emotions as well as adolescent language life have been influenced badly. It is because most of students indiscriminately swallow all the languages of entertainers, MCs and ers, media deliver, and even unconditionally accept broadcasting language as a right expression. Furthermore, as the written language is used actively via caption, in addition to the sound language, many expressions are wrong in word spacing and spelling. Since in order to secure audience broadcasters thoughtlessly employ entertainer hosts who did not receive the education and training of broadcasting language, the misuse of broadcasting language has been intensified all the more.
In this study, the investigator examined the misuse of broadcasting language in KBS programs over the period of January to December, 2008 on the basis of the current status of broadcasting language misuse by the reasons of violation published by the Korea Communications Standards Commission and the broadcasting language purification data collection published by KBS Research Society on Korean Language.
Study findings showed that comparing to programs of which hosts had received the education of professional broadcasting language for the most part, the entertainment programs of which hosts were entertainers or the educational programs of which hosts were gradually changed into entertainers who had not received the education of professional broadcasting language were more frequent in the misuse of broadcasting language. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an educational program of broadcasting language for the entertainer host group of which misuse of broadcasting language is most frequent and for PDs who are in charge of producing such programs. In addition, in order to settle down the problem of broadcasting language correctly, it is necessary to establish a strategy of activating specialized hosts and of improving the function of deliberation and supervision of broadcasting language.
