본 연구의 목적은 한국인의 사회 문화적 맥락이 반영된 용기 척도를 개발하고, 그 타당도를 검증하는 데 있었다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 다음과 같이 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫... 본 연구의 목적은 한국인의 사회 문화적 맥락이 반영된 용기 척도를 개발하고, 그 타당도를 검증하는 데 있었다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 다음과 같이 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫째,한국 성인용 용기 척도는 어떤 요인들로 구성되는가? 둘째,한국 성인용 용기 척도의 신뢰도와 타당도(요인 구조의 적합성, 기존 용기 척도와의 관계, 불안, 희망 등 관련 변인과의 관계, 다른 표본에서의 요인 구조의 적합성)는 어떠한가? 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 다음의 절차를 거쳐 연구를 수행하였다. 먼저, 용기의 구성개념을 설정하였다. 용기에 관한 국내외 선행 연구들을 개관하고, 기존 용기 척도들을 확인하였으며, 한국인의 사회 문화적 특성과 관련된 문헌 중 한국인의 용기에 관해 기술한 문헌들로부터 자료를 수집하여 한국인 용기의 구성개념을 개념적으로 설정하였다. 개방형 조사와 면접을 통해 실제 한국인들이 생각하는 용기의 개념을 수집하였고 그 응답을 바탕으로 하여 개념적으로 설정하였던 용기의 구성개념을 확인하였다. 다음으로, 설정된 용기 구성 개념을 바탕으로 척도를 개발하였다. 문항 수집과 분석, 탐색적 요인분석, 확인적 요인분석 등을 통한 체계적인 척도 개발 과정을 따라서 한국 성인용 용기 척도를 개발하였다. 마지막으로 개발된 용기 척도의 신뢰도와 타당도를 확인하였다. 공인타당도 확인을 위하여 개발된 용기 척도와 기존에 개발된 용기 척도와의 상관을 알아보았으며, 관련 변인들과의 상관을 살펴보았다. 또한 다른 표본을 바탕으로 확인적 요인분석을 추가로 실시하여 교차타당도를 확인하였다.
The purpose of this study was to develop a scale that can measure courage of Korean and to examine the reliability and validity of the scale. The purpose of this study was to develop a scale that can measure courage of Korean and to examine the reliability and validity of the scale. For the purpose, this study followed the standard procedures of scale development. First, the construct of courage was examined through the review of literatures related to courage, especially courage of Koreans, and other existing courage scales. A preliminary Courage Scale for Korean, that consisted of 76 items, was composed based on the literature reviews, existing courage scales, and the responses of Korean adults to open-ended questions and interviews about courage. This preliminary scale was administered to a sample of 424 Korean adults age 20s to 40s, and an exploratory factor analysis was performed based on the responses of the 419 participants. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that the scale consisted of 4 factors with 26 items. The four factors were: 1) Psychological courage 1 (6 items); 2) Physical courage (8 items); 3) Moral courage (7 items); and 4) Psychological courage 2 (5 items). The courage scale stated adequate internal reliability coefficients. Among 4 factors of the scale, two psychological courage factors(Psychological courage 1 and Psychological courage 2) reflected the cultural characteristics as Korean more than other factors. Second, the model fit of factor structure, concurrent validity, construct validity and cross-validation of the Courage Scale were examined by a series of statistical analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis was performed using a different sample of 1162 Korean adults age 20s to 40s, and the result showed that the factor structures of the scale was appropriate. Also, the Courage Scale stated a significant positive correlation with the existing courage scales, CM(Courage Measurement). And the Scale had a significant positive correlation with 'hope' and a significant negative correlation with 'anxiety'. In addition, to examine cross-validation, the confirmatory factor analysis with another sample of 308 Korean adults was performed again and the factor structures of scale was appropriate. These results demonstrated that the developed Courage Scale was a reliable instrument to measure courage of Korean. To sum up, this study proved that the newly developed Courage Scale could be the reliable and valid scale to measure courage of Koreans. This scale can be used in future studies examining the association between courage and other related variables. And also this scale can be useful to develop the courage development programs to help the Korean adults who may need more courage for their lives.
