많은 사람들이 수년 간에 걸쳐서 영어를 학습함에도 불구하고, 회화를 하거나 영작을 하는 등 표현을 하는데 있어서 일관되고 반복되는 오류들을 지닌다. 본 연구의 목적은 바로 이러한 점... 많은 사람들이 수년 간에 걸쳐서 영어를 학습함에도 불구하고, 회화를 하거나 영작을 하는 등 표현을 하는데 있어서 일관되고 반복되는 오류들을 지닌다. 본 연구의 목적은 바로 이러한 점에 주목하여, 영어를 상당 기간 배워온 성인들이 주로 어떠한 부분에서 오류를 일으키는지 관찰하고, 실험을 통해 그 오류의 유형들을 분류해 봄으로써, 보다 효과적인 영어 수업을 계획하는데 도움이 되고자 하였다. 물론 영어 학습자들이 오류를 만들어 내는 이유는, 목표언어 자체에 대한 몰이해에서 벌어지는 오류도 있을 수 있지만, 본 연구에서는 한국어 습관이 영어표현에 있어서 미치는 영향을 문법적인 측면과 의미적인 측면에서 분류를 해서 구별해 보았다. 문법적인 측면은 각 품사별로 오류의 유형을 정리하였고, 어순상의 차이에서 오는 오류들도 간단히 언급하였다. 학생들이 만들어내는 문법적인 오류들은 주로 한국어에 없는 영어의 특징, 즉 관사라든지 아니면 다양한 시제의 활용에서 벌어지는 오류, 그리고 전치사를 활용하는데 있어서, 각 전치사의 용도를 이해하지 못하고, 한국어의 의미로써 각 전치사들을 인지함으로써, 적당한 전치사를 적당한 맥락에서 활용하지 못하는 오류들을 범하는 경향을 관찰하게 되었다. 그리고 의미적인 측면에서의 분류는 주로, 우리가 영어 학습을 할 때, 영어의 어휘를 한국어와 일대일 대응식으로 공부하기 때문에 필연적으로 벌어질 수밖에 없는 표현상의 오류와, 정확한 영어식 표현을 알지 못하기 때문에 벌어지는 오류의 형태, 그리고 잘못된 외래어의 습관에서 벌어지는 오류의 형태 등으로 나누어서 설명하였다. 대부분 학생들이 영어를 학습해 가면서 만들어 내는 오류들은 한국어의 습관 때문에 벌어지는 오류의 유형들이 대부분이었으며, 이러한 오류의 유형들을 잘 정리하면, 우리가 보다 효과적인 영어 교육을 하고 학습을 하는데 있어서 좋은 참고 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다. 한국어와 영어의 차이를 대조해 봄으로써, 우리는 그 차이에서 오는 난점을 예측할 수 있고, 그리고 학생들의 오류에 대한 보다 근원적인 이유를 고찰해 봄으로써, 효과적인 수업을 구성하거나, 보다 효율적인 교재를 편찬하는데 있어서 좋은 지침이 될 수 있을 것이다.

Even though a lot of people continue to study English for several years, they usually make same mistakes repeatedly when they express their ideas in writing and speaking and those mistakes have very similar patterns. The purpose of this study is to investigate the errors or mistakes that Korean learners of English commonly make when they speak or write something in English and to divide those into groups to suggest more efficient ways to teach and learn English. Of course, the reason why the learners of English make mistakes may result from the lack of understanding of the target language. However, in this study, I classified the effects which the Korean lingual habits caused on expression in English into two groups, based on grammatical point of view and semantical point of view. In grammar, I investigated the errors through the analysis of error patterns found in their use of English, and classified those into several groups, depending on the parts of speech and word order. In most cases, the grammatical errors which students make when they speak or write come from the difference between Korean and English. For example, Korean doesn''t have articles and the present perfect tense which English has, so students learning English usually make mistakes with those grammatical points. Besides, when they use prepositions to make a sentence, they fail to use suitable prepositions which are appropriate to the context. That''s because they don''t understand the variety of usages of each preposition but just understand English prepositions in a Korean way of thinking. Through the investigation, I came to know that students also make semantic mistakes caused by word-for-word translation done with the limited knowledge the learners know about English vocabulary, without regard to the fact that a single English word can have diverse meanings. Those mistakes are inevitable because students usually study new words by translating them into Korean word-for-word. In addition, there are other types of errors resulting from the facts that students don''t know the exact way of English expression and they use the false English expressions due to the inappropriate and awkward use of loan words. Most of the errors which students make when they learn English are caused by the interference from their first language Korean. This study can be good reference materials helpful in teaching and learning English more efficiently. By contrasting the difference between English and Korean, we can anticipate what the difficult points are in learning English, and by considering more fundamental factors to the errors made by English-learning students, we can organize our class more efficiently and we can establish good guidelines to make good English textbooks. In the position of students learning English, it is desirable to think in English before they express their ideas in English and they should try to understand the usage and the exact meaning of the new word when studying English vocabulary and practice correcting erroneous expressions to become a more fluent English speaker. 참고문헌 (Reference) |
