본 연구는 성경 이야기가 종교 목적 한국어 학습자에게 미치는 영향에 대해 알아본다. 성경 이야기와 일반적인 한국어 교재에서 발췌한 이야기로 딕토글로스 과제, “글 재구성하기”와 “추론하기”로 실험을 하여, 성경 이야기가 효과적인 학습 자료가 될 수 있는지 여부를 분석하였다.
국내 기독교인 유학생 피실험자들은 먼저 기승전결 흐름에 따른 이야기 전개를 듣고 어휘와 단문으로 메모한 후, 그룹 활동에서 함께 문장을 구성한다. 또한 주어진 본문내용의 추론 문제에 대한 서로의 생각을 나누고, 이를 글로 표현한다.
피실험자들은 두 텍스트 모두에 흥미를 갖고 ‘듣고 재구성하기‘ 과제에 능동적이고 적극적이었다. ‘추론하여 쓰기’에선 보다 친숙한 성경 이야기에 대해서 더 활발한 상호작용을 하였다.
실험 후 설문을 통한 응답에서도 이들은 딕토글로스 과제가 무척 흥미 있었다고 했다. 또 이 과제들이 문장구성 및 순서, 문법, 어휘 이해에 도움이 됐다고 답했으며, 맞춤법에도 도움이 되었다는 적은 수의 답변도 있었다.
짧은 실험기간과 적은 피실험자 수로 인해, 본 실험은 통계적으로 유의미한 결과치를 얻을 수 없었다. 그렇지만, 특정한 학습 목적을 가진 학습자들에게 맞는 텍스트, 특히 종교 목적(기독교)을 가진 학습자에게 성경 이야기를 바탕으로 한 과제가 긍정적인 언어 교육의 효과를 준다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 하는 언어 교육에서 성경 이야기가 중요한 자료로 활용될 수 있다는 것 또한 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 성경 이야기가 한국어 교육 학습 자료로 더 많이 활용되길 기대한다.

This study examines the effects of biblical stories on religion-purpose Korean language learners. We conducted an experiment which gives the subjects two dictogloss assignments, “Text reconstruction” and “Inference”, about two stories each selected from the bible and Korean traditional textbooks.
In the experiment, the subjects, international students with Christian region backgrounds, listen to well-organized stories. Then, they take notes with words and short sentences about what they heard. Next, they compare their notes and discuss about the stories. Finally, they try to reconstruct the whole text together. They are also encouraged to have a discussion on the question related to the stories and to write down what they think about it.
As a results of the experiment, the subjects showed equal level of interests on both texts in doing “Text reconstruction”. For the “Inference” assignment, they participated more actively in discussion especially on biblical stories which were familiar to them.
Furthermore, in the survey after the experiment, the subjects responded that those dictogloss assignments were not only interesting, but also helpful to understand sentence composition, sentence order, grammar, and vocabulary. Some said those were helpful to spelling as well.
Although, we could not get statistically significant results due to the short period and small sample size, we certainly found out that the assignments based on the text which is consistent with the purpose of language learners brings positive effects on language education, especially the ones based on biblical stories affect religion-purpose language learners with Christian religion backgrounds in positive ways for their learning with different aspects.
We also found that biblical stories play an important role in Korean language education especially for region-purpose Korean language learners with Christian religion backgrounds. We hope biblical stories would be utilized more widely in Korean language education.
